Now that the foe they had been facing was dead, Cecilia focused on the other two birds of prey that were coming her way. A woman who always did what she could for her comrades, she had faith that they knew what they were doing and would be able to hold the cliff they stood upon. If they could not, well, then she was the least of their worries. Since the beginning, a new face had joined the fight, and for that she was grateful. It seemed she had learned a thing or two about exactly what to do when facing a treacherous bird such as this. On her own, she would have killed it faster, though certainly at the expense of a limb. And a lot of blood. Perhaps even her life.

Slowly and surely, she moved to intercept the two other birds while the others did their best doing whatever it was they were doing. She was savoring this moment-the thrill of the fight. The hunt. The fun.

On the other side of the cluster of elementals and their companions, Tacita still stood, un-amazed at the entirety of it all. They were highly disorganized, though he would readily admit he wasn't helping the situation. He couldn't deny the courage of the other earth elemental though, the young one, as he attempted to hold the cliff together on his own. A simply task would they cooperate, but Tacita had no such intentions this day. Instead, he turned his attention to the now attacking Osales.

Reaching down, he grabbed a medium sized chunk of earth and made it into a large cluster of tiny earth needles. More than enough to fill a human body, so he felt it was appropriate for the birds as well. With this, he took a few steps back, as if he were abandoning the group before turning around. Once positioned, he put one foot backwards and arched his arm, preparing to throw the needles. He had to ensure that he would hit none of his comrades, and this was the best chance to do just that. Considering the birds were higher in the sky, it was likely he would avoid all friendly fire.

Aiming exactly in between the two birds, Tacita began to throw the needles. Halfway through his throw, he gathered up an intense amount of energy into his arm and transferred it downward, toward his hand, as if the energy were traveling with the needles. As soon as the energy reached his fingertips, he dispersed it, using the pent up energy to add force behind the needles attacks. Swift, they flew towards their prey. A small wave of force left his hands with the needles, and he was forced to take a step backwards to keep from falling over. He had used up quite a bit of energy in that attack, but he could take no chances now-they were in a situation that could be deemed dire.

Almost as if he had a change of heart, Tacita looked back at the young earth elemental. Reaching down, Tacita set his hands on the ground, attempting to feel at which parts were broken. Since the younger earth elemental was keeping the ground steady, Tacita instead searched for the cracks that were in the more dangerous parts, and began to repair them. Using not only his own energy, but also bits and pieces of earth that would not endanger them further, he began to solidify the ground they stood upon, albeit slowly.

This was extremely taxing, and it was unlikely Tacita would be of any further help this day, but they could not afford any casualties this day, nor could they afford any delay. So, he took it upon himself to help the others in ensuring that they had neither.

Sorry for my late post! I've been mentally exhausted recently. ANYWAY, if you don't want to be quoting, you should let me know. I quote everyone just because, so I don't mind not quoting you if you have a problem with it. ^.^

Cherise Beaumont

Cherise had her eye on the far end of the canyon as the first creature was taken down and killed. The success of the group tempted her again to flee. Clearly they were able to take care of themselves. There were two more coming, but they would probably be able to handle it, and they were too busy regrouping to pay attention to her running off. Still, it had taken a lot to bring down just one. The taut bow had loosened slightly as she considered her options. Under normal circumstances she would have disappeared long ago. She had hardly explored beyond the city of Narran, so these were creatures that she had never encountered before. She also never cared to do so again. On the other hand, venturing off alone may not be her best bet either. This was proof enough.

It wasn’t until the other air elemental stepped in that she made up her mind to stick around for the time being. She prepped her arrow once again, her gaze becoming intent on the birds. The show of brute force was impressive, she had to admit. It would be interesting to be able to show off like that, sure, but preferred a little finesse. From her distance, she was completely oblivious of the toll that it was taking on him, which would have made it slightly less impressive. She had been waiting for her moment to shoot, which might be drawn out a little more as the party attempted to hold the creatures up, when she felt a sudden pull at her waist.

There was almost no warning before the water elemental went running off with one end of her rope in hand. She had been about to say something when she followed the trail of rope back from the girl’s hand to her waist, where the other end was still connected. “Gnnyaagh!” The strange sound of surprise escaped her throat in place of words, and she instantly dropped the arrow that she had been holding in her hand, letting it clatter to the ground harmlessly. She raced quickly to disconnect the other end from her belt, and only just in time – the remaining rope slipped through her loosened hand just as she had been starting to let it go, trailing off behind the wild girl as she headed towards the guardian who had ordered it. “You could’ve asked!” she finally yelled towards the girl as she closed in on her destination, but it was a little late by the time she did. The moment had passed, and she had to settle for simply watching as her rope was snatched away. It was obvious now: she should have just left. Now she had to stick around and get her rope back!

Not only the image has remained, it's carved within my soul

There's a fire in you that glows just somewhere in the dark

A guiding light that will not cease until my dying day

A living shadow with your face engraved in lines of light

Yoren heard the call of the shirtless man, that he would have to let go of the cliff as soon as the birds were taken down and everyone was off. "No problem!" he called out. Truthfully, Yoren would be happy to move on to fighting on safer ground and letting the cliff fall now. But the need for that was seemingly eliminated when one of the other men, the biggest in the group aside from him, began repairing the cracks in the cliff. Yoren didn't much like the look of him - he looked almost like a living corpse - but the earth elemental's life had been saved, for he could not longer focus on holding up the cliff and fighting the Osales at the same time. He was now beet red, his corded muscles straining with the effort and sweat pouring down his back. He nodded his thanks in his direction. But he felt he could not hold his tentacles up for much longer. He had a plan, though.

"Worth a try," he muttered. Yoren freed his hands from the soft ground around his tentacles, and lashed out with both to wrap around the Osales' tails. When they had got themselves around there, he would harden them back into solid rock, hopefully binding the birds in place permanently. And immediately after removing his hands from the ground, Yoren slammed his fist into the cliffside wall, sending a spray of broken shards of rock out towards the birds. Due to his tiredness, he could not aim properly, and they went every which way. They might hit the vulnerable chest, or put holes in their wings - he did not know for sure. Whatever it took to bring them down.

Environment Alert!

The two incoming Osales had been making good time on their convergence with the party until the three giant tornadoes appeared behind them. The sudden change of air flow caught the creatures off guard, and even managed to pull both of them backward, one of them into the cyclone itself. The bird screeched as it spun around, attempting to get its bearing and escape its whirlwind prison. The other struggled against the forces of the winds behind it, frantically flapping to avoid the same fate.

It was at this point that the spikes of earth were thrown at them. There were too many of them, and the bird inside the whirlwind was already in enough peril, the other struggling to save itself. A few of the needles struck their mark on the bird still outside the tornadoes, twice in the right side of its chest and one spectacularly catching its neck. However, it didn’t seem to make it all the way through, for despite the bird’s cry of pain, it remained alive. It was enough to halt its desperate fight against the whirlwind long enough for the creature to get sucked back into it, though this one managed to get thrown back out the other side.

The second Osales, which had been stuck in the whirlwind with no apparent escape, was not so lucky. The needles were sucked into the spinning cyclones as well, and several of them tore through it, one piercing it straight through the center. The bird cried and stopped fighting, having been caught, among many other piercings, straight through the heart.

The needles that had not struck their mark – and there were a great many – had been caught by the whirlwinds behind where the Osales had been. This created a problem all its own, because the forces of the winds started to send the needles out again in various directions. Most of them flew off harmlessly away from the group, but a select few had beaten the odds and found targets. One headed for the lower abdomen of the guardian Ysemina, another for the chest of the healer Mahala. The fire elemental Masao was poised to take one to his right shoulder, and the last one was darting in the direction of the warrior Kristen’s skull. The needles of hardened earth had gained an incredible amount of speed from the energy of the whirlwind that had projected it, prepared to tear right through each of them.

The surviving Osales let out one more battlecry from behind the whirlwinds that had injured it. The fall of its fellows had only angered it more, and it appeared above the central cyclone with a fury. It wasted no time in its descent upon the group. A few of the various earth needles managed to strike it as they were sent on a myriad of different paths from the winds, only to bounce off its bony armor harmlessly. The creature was briefly held up by the solidified tentacle that had wrapped around its tail, but within a few seconds had freed itself with a show of brute force and anger. It dove in among the assembled team once more, headed straight for the water elemental Miko. This time, at last, it caught its target. One of its talons gripped the girl across the middle and took her along as it immediately pulled up from its nosedive. The girl let out a shriek, which was swiftly cut off. As the Osales ascended, the blood of the girl would start to fall from the sky. Once it had circled back in the direction of the group, the vulture clenched its talon firmly. The water elemental dropped to the ground among her peers in a shower of blood..and in two pieces.

It wavered. Her focus that is. The grounded Osales' cry of pain. The attempt to get away from those ending it's life. It made her ache with a sadness for the creature. It was doing what it could for survival in this life. Attacking prey that comes long as they will. Though, the same could be said for them. They are merely defending themselves from becoming prey. Another way of survival in this life. Forcing herself to look away from the dying creature, Mahala turned to follow the fiery female elemental inland.

The thoughts and feelings lingered in her mind as she felt the wind changed directions. Strong and pulling as they all swelled up behind her. Her eyes squinting slightly at the sudden rush. Curious to the sudden change, she turned to see three giant whirls of wind twisting about. An elemental's power. Her mind supplied the abnormal appearances of them. The screech of the Osales didn't sound as ear breaking with the wind diverting some of the sound away.

A blast of spikes came afterwards and a glance from the source of it told her it was the newcomer. The movements of the tall and sad member of their party also caught her eyes, watching him touch the ground where she assumed the cracks were.

Her diverted attention proved to be a poor choice as she was unaware of what was happening with the predators of the sky. It was only until she caught sight of it from the edge of her vision that she managed to skip to the side to avoid the incoming projectile. "Ah!" She let out painfully and with a hiss as the needle was still able to scrape her upper arm. Her right hand immediately covering the wound, feeling the warm red liquid on her fingers.

Before Mahala could inspect it, a feminine shriek drew her eyes away from her shoulder to the Osales' holding the girl. Her eyes widen and she let out a horrified gasp at fallen body of one of the companion. Death wasn't an unfamiliar happening to the healer, yet to watch it happen before her, it disturbed her on some levels. Was this how the hunters in her tribe felt when a fellow member died in front of them? And they, helpless to help as they try to escape from death's grip?

Ysmeina Godfried ; The G u a r d i a n

__________________________________________________________________________________

There were so many noises. So much to consider. Ysmeina found her eyes darting along the cliffside, to the young elementals, to Xadrian, to the strange bare-chested man, and again to the birds of prey that were growing in numbers. As vigorous as she was, the exchange of power was distressing her body. Her arms began to quake. Sweat glistened on the contours of her face. But she knew that there wouldn't be much they could salvage; the cliff was presumably done for. She held on in hopes that the others would run to safety. They would just have to figure it out once the earth went crumbling down.
A storm seemed to brew. The others were acting quickly, whirlwinds and mud-gripping slicks were in the air. She could hear rocks crumbling.

"Everyone, hurry up!" The Guardian shouted over the roaring wind. How could their first fight be so damn hard? "Xadrian's right, this cliff won't hol- -" A sharp pain broke her flesh. She found herself lurching over, then locking in place, immobilized by the sudden pain. Slowly looking down, Ysmeina saw a peculiar piece jutting out of her stomach.

Sabine could hear the screaming most profoundly. For the passing moments she stood in safety and onlooked the battle, her focus primarily on Ysmeina, the earth elementals, and Ebony. She did well to brace herself once the shards of rock came crumbling down, and shuffled further away in fear of the funnel that now whisked those same shards and threw them with little bias. A low cry. Her eyes shot to Ysmeina's bowing figure. She had lost her grip of the earth, now holding her hands to stomach.

"Meina!" Impulsively she stepped forward. Ysmeina looked from over her shoulder and held her hand up. It was colored in blood. "Meina!"
"Don't move! - -" A blood-curdling scream tore the atmosphere. The women both looked up at that moment, and horror contorted their faces.
"The, elemental. . ." Sabine's breath hitched.

"No," She looked around frantically, searching the others faces, then looked up again. When she dared to move, to jerk suddenly, she paid the price with immeasurable pain that shot through her lower body. Her eyes began to burn. "NO!"

Seeing the final expression on that girls' face, her final breath one of sheer terror, rattled Ysmeina. She could feel her eyes burning. The pain in her heart rivaled that of her abdomen, and for a time she fought to resurface from her episode of shock. The jerking motions were harsh on her weary body. Her vision struggled to focus.

Clay's frame shuddered and his vision grew darker and darker with every passing moment. The weight of the cliff was just so heavy. "If I just let go for a second...just a second he could afford that couldn't he? Not much would happen in that moment he stopped trying, it was only so he could catch his breath, release the tension built up in his body. The fatigue that had grown inside of him agreed and he prepared to drop the cliff, he was delusional at this point when he felt the weight lessen, his eyes lazily looked up and he could see the new comer, his hands in the ground also, holding the cliff face up. "An earth elemental he could feel the energy flow through the rocks, forcing the tears in the materials to come back together to hold their place. It was a relief and Clay didn't need to exert as much energy at that moment and he shrugged his shoulders, tears of relief brimming in his eyes at the overwhelming feeling that came with the movement. The situation suddenly seemed less bleak, that partnered with the sight of seeing the Osale being murdered by his fellow companions. They could survive this then.

The moment of relief was short-lived as the shriek of more Osales brought a shudder through the anxious man. He couldn't handle this, the amount of strain, even with the help. the earth elementals head thrashed from side to side as he ground his teeth, this was too much for him. He could feel his breath quicken and he squeezed his eyes shut trying to block out the sight and sounds around him, if he focused, he was back in his cave, back in his home, safe and sound with a warm fire before him and a hot stew cooking. Slowly Clay opened his eyes but in front of him wasn't rabbit stew or the warm glow of a fire, it was only a crumbling cliff face and the scared looks of his party members. His body shuddered with despair at that moment.

The shriek of a woman caused his to look up, his self absorption had disappeared. He wished he hadn't though. The body of the water elemental tumbled through the air, it was severed in two. He had missed the barrage that had assaulted the Osales and forced them back, he had unfortunately captured the death of a companion however, the first death. "There will be more the thought flashed through his mind and it caused the young man to heave and throw up on the ground before him, shudders racking his body as he finally let go of the cliff face. His energy now spent. If it hadn't been for Tacita and Yoren stabilizing the cliff at that moment who knows what would happen, as it was the cliff only shuddered but remained still. Clay didn't register this however, he had entered a state of shock and fallen onto his side, his eyes open but staring dead pan at the severed body before him. He had never seen a person killed, not in any of his twenty six years. He hadn't thought death to be a possibility when he had walked towards the gates that very morning. "We're all going to die" where the last words out of his mouth before his body shut down, shock firmly kicking in and his basic instincts taking over, a blackness covering him as he slipped into unconsciousness.

Anger is like fire. . .
It burns it all clean

Dezra Reiloch

The light in the sky above them grew, faded, and finally stabilized in the moments that Dezra watched the body fall from the sky. Her eyes followed her trajectory, and it was fortunate that none of the earth spikes were heading her way, for she had not been paying attention to them. When at last she struck the ground – both pieces of her – the fire elemental shut her eyes tightly for a moment, willing herself to keep her calm as she processed the situation. When they opened again, the color had changed once more to that dark red hue, and there was a heat emanating from her skin. Besides these small unconscious issues, she was focused back on the task. Her attention went back to the bigger picture.

The ball of fire grew slightly brighter and held steady. The darkness had closed in, and even the shadows on the horizon were fading into it. Her gaze moved across the group, and halted when she spotted the guardian who had been impaled. Eyes then continued to dart from person to person, searching for one who might be able to assist. She stopped on Sabine, the quiet one who had done little during this battle and was yelling at her companion’s pain. Her empathy had gone after the water elemental had hit the ground; they had to get things done. She could only guess – for she had not yet introduced herself – that the woman was one of the healers of the group. She did not appear to have the fighting spirit or abilities that would suggest any other position.

You!” Dezra yelled across to the healer, pointing at her to make sure she knew that she was talking to her. “Come with me!” Without another word, she made a run for the injured guardian. Once she was by her side, she examined the situation a little more closely. It was indeed grave, and there was a significant amount of blood. A part of her wanted to pull the intruding object out of her, but she knew better than to do so before the healer had arrived. “Stay still, she demanded of the woman harshly. “I can stop the bleeding. It’ll hurt like hell, but I can stop the bleeding. We need to check for what kind of internal injuries you have first.” Despite her offer to help and otherwise kind(-ish) words, her gaze was still cold. She seemed not to care what happened, and instead was repeating something that she had said several times before.

Out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of the collapsed earth elemental. Already they were falling fast, and they hadn’t even made it to the maze. Those dark red eyes narrowed sharply and she swore quietly to herself. With no option to assist him herself, she turned her attention back to the patient at hand. He appeared to have just passed out; this one needed immediate attention. She’d have to leave the new foe to the rest of the group.

Beneath his hand Xadrian could feel the young earth elemental slowly loosing strength. Even with all of the people they had helping hold the cliff up it wasn't enough. As he waited for rope he finally sensed the power of a third elemental pouring energy into the soil. It would seem that the tall creepy guy had finally gotten up and done something to try and help. It was a bit of a relief, as it meant that the others didn't have to expend as much energy in holding it together. Then, the voice of a woman whom was handing him something penetrated his thoughts. Turning to look, Xadrian saw Ebony holding out a piece of rope for him to use. He took the rope and was about to put it to use when a staccato of events began happening around him.

A number of projectiles were thrown at the birds which were trying to attack them. However, this only proved to make things worse as not only did they strike at the birds, they were sucked up by the twisters. At first, all seemed as though it would be alright, the birds were caught in a whirlwind of deadly and piercing projectiles. Struggling and in peril, they were held down and handled for but a few brief moments. Then as predictably unpredictable as mother nature, the twisters spit their own spears back at them. The daunting shafts of sharpened rock were hurled back towards the group and in every other which direction. None were coming at himself or the people in his immediate company but he did watch one bury itself in Ysmeina. He couldn't see the wound very well but it didn't look good either. Xadrian wanted nothing more than to run over and aid the woman, but for now, had to remain where he was and tend to Clay. As it were, the boy was loosing it fast. Pushing himself, the guardian tried to give the elemental a surge of strength, he only needed to hold on a short while longer until the cracks were remedied.

A hot thick liquid sprayed Xadrian's face and the coppery taste of blood dripped from his lips. He hadn't turned around when he'd heard the scream, only froze as it was cut off. He didn't need to look to know that the water elemental was dead. He'd felt her energy spike and disappear; snuffed out like an imploding candle flame. That pang of grief and regret that comes with a sudden death hit him full force in the chest. Already his mind was coming up with all the things the group could have done differently, all the things that may have saved that young and gentle girl. The guardian stared ahead blankly. He looked at nothing as watched the corpse of Miko fall from the talons of her predator. Her two halves fell so slowly. The girl's eyes were still open in shock and full of terror. He wondered if she'd even had a split second to make peace with death. When she finally hit the ground there was an echoing crack as what was left of her fragile bones fractured and broke. Along with it came an awful squelching noise that was followed by a pooling of blood. The red liquid that was her life spilt about her middle and stained every inch of soil it touched. Meanwhile, her organs and entrails fanned around her in a glistening mess of blood, fat and bile. 'How could I have let her die?' he thought guiltily. The Guardian hadn't moved, blinked, or even breathed, in the painfully slow time that made up the woman's death.

Feeling the earth elemental beside him slip into a stupor Xadrian was given an excuse peel his eyes from the horror before him. Now was not the time to grieve and mourn, now was the time to ensure that he did not loose another companion. There was still an Osales circling above them angrily; if they didn't move quickly more would be crushed by the grip of its talons. Pushing aside all the thoughts of grim hopelessness, Xadrian bent down and lifted the boy who laid at his feet. Throwing him over his shoulder into a fireman's carry he rushed towards Ysmeina, Dezra, and Sabine. Luckily the cliff had been repaired enough that it was not about to crumble beneath their feet and he got there safely. As he approached he said, "We need to get these two out of sight," referring to the injured guardian and the boy on his shoulder. For now, Xadrian was all business as he did his best to keep his emotions at bay, but deep in his rich eyes there was a barely visible pain that no amount of time with a healer could erase. Turning his head in the direction of the others he observed how scattered everyone currently was. It would be so simple for the bird to swoop down and pick them apart.

The situation unfolding before him was a disaster. No, in fact, to call it a disaster would be an understatement. And Tacita knew it was mostly his fault. While one person hardly made a difference in most situations, he had the life and battle experience over them all, and he had chosen to watch them instead of join them. A wise choice at the time, but even the wisest of sages turns into a fool amidst danger.

Seeing the girl die in itself was not terrifying, nor did it provoke any emotions besides regret in the deathly earth elemental. Watching his spikes injure a few comrades was something else that didn't particularly bother him much. They needed these things to die, and if someone had to get injured for them to stay alive...well, that was preferable. Walking forward, towards the injured, Tactica got on his knees, and put his hands on the ground. He remained quiet for a moment before channeling energy. A large piece of earth behind him rose up and began to cover the small group. Earth met earth, and they were suddenly within a small, safe haven, surrounded by modified earth on every side. Anyone not near them was likely left out, and that's what had to happen in order for them to survive. If those on the outside couldn't handle the creature, then he would handle it when the wounded were tended to.

Staring at the group, Tacita did feel some sadness. He had let it come to this. He may not have been the only one to make mistakes, but surely he had made the most detrimental. Apologizing now wouldn't help, so he would save it until later. Perhaps they would forgive him enough to not give him the cold shoulder.

Meanwhile, on the outside, Cecilia had been left out of the humble abode of earth. In truth, she preferred it this way. Now she could fight without worrying about anyone else. Picking up some rocks, she started throwing them at the bird until she got its attention. When it came for her, her blade would come down swiftly. It would be her or the bird, and she knew which one of the choices it had to be. There was no room for error. No more could die. Right hand held high into the sky, her blade poised to strike, she threw rocks with her left hand until the bird came for her.

After going to the trouble of getting the rope Ebony was yet again useless. The man whom she had handed it to had done little more than take it from her hands before dropping it in exchange for the collapsed man. Naturally this was the last thing on her mind as she looked upon the gruesome picture, painted in crimson, that lay before her. Only moments ago she had been standing beside the girl, both as alive as could be. Had Ebony not moved, that could have been her scattered across the canyon ledge. Ebony stood and stared at the scene, her head tilted to one side as she thought about the whole thing. The girl was confused and didn't know how to feel about it. She'd once had an experience like this; it was a strange feeling to be so close to a death like this one. Yet somehow, at the same time, she felt far away and detached as she had not known the girl.

As Ebony's mind raced Xadrian had already picked up Clay and ran towards some of the others in the group. It wasn't until Tacita had formed a dome shelter however that she became more aware of her surroundings. The sound of grumbling earth had her focusing her eyes and paying more attention to what she, and the remaining vulture were doing. She had only split her concentration for a few short moments but the result was not a good one. The large ball of water that she had been holding had started dripping and draining back over the cliff and into the ground. It was now half the size but at least more easily managed. Pulling the water to her she stepped into the bubble and took a deep breathe. It was time to focus and help in any way she could.

The orb of water that she stood within moved towards the warrior Cici who was throwing stones at the Osales. The bottom of the bubbles splashed as waves spilt forward in movement. Once a ways behind the woman Ebony gripped her scythe near the butt end of the handle. Looking up at the predator her face became angry, "That wasn't very nice! She was going to be my friend!" She then began spinning, using the weapon to create force and momentum. As she spun so did the water around her, it bent and flowed to the shape of her body creating a thick physical aura of water. As she swirled more and more she remained calm, her breathing was steady and her vision focused on a single point: her target. Once she was sure she had the timing right Ebony swung her scythe. A shockwave of water shot from the blade and was headed straight for the bird. As the animal moved through the air the water elemental kept sending attacks after it. Finally after 4 attempts she slowed and came to a stop to see if there was any damage. In her attack she'd used up about half of the water that remained and was feeling a little dizzy. By now she was also starting to get tired, her breathing was heavy and her body was becoming sore, but she'd always been a trooper and she didn't plan on stopping anytime soon.

The Third Survivor

Not only the image has remained, it's carved within my soul

There's a fire in you that glows just somewhere in the dark

A guiding light that will not cease until my dying day

A living shadow with your face engraved in lines of light

Yoren gasped in horror as he saw the young water elemental dismembered by the Osales' sharp talons. "NO!" he shouted, his voice echoing off the canyon walls, an expression of true shock crossing his broad face. It was giving him unwelcome flashbacks to the last journey he had undertaken. A walking corpse, flesh torn but still alive... But he was soon brought back to reality by the sound of Clay collapsing nearby, and Tacita creating a shelter around him and the other wounded. He gaped in surprise, but was internally annoyed that he could not do so for the entire group. Deprived of prey, the Osales would surely give up eventually.

Yoren knew he couldn't focus on fighting now. He would have created another shelter, but he couldn't do that either - he didn't have enough earth to work with, for one thing. It was taking everything he had just to hold the cliff up, now that Clay was not engaged with it. His muscles strained, veins popping out in his temples, and he was clearly exhausted, seeming to hold the earth steady only through sheer force of will. He had faith enough in the other members of the group to believe that they could kill the Osales. But he had no fear for his own safety - only that of those who had been made his comrades by the fight. "Soon as I let go," he grunted, "cliff's gonna fall. All of yer need to get off, soon's the Osales is taken care of. Don't worry about me..."

OOC: Nuttin' fo' now.

As a plume of smoke rising in the light...

The horizon swirls and tilts. Flashing colors. A constant, impossibly high ring punctuated by clips of conversations. Everything was an imperceptible blur in his vision, nothing that happened around him registered. Not the needles that shot past him, not the Osales that swooped by, not the blood that rained down on him and dripped from his face and hair. It was just him and his element, caught in a psychedelic state of limbo for what felt like days. It was only when he felt faintness closing in on him that he knew it was time to bring it all to a close.

All at once he awoke form his trance, gasping as reality hit him like a tidal wave. The situation around him was moving fast, and he knew that he had to move too. Except, his limbs currently felt like lead, and a delirious stagger was the best he could manage. That didn't stop him from trying though, as he managed to get himself onto the stable ground that the group had been headed for ultimately. Even though he knew it was risky and he'd probably pass out from it, Celethelel readied his element for one last assault, just in case the beast should mistake him for an easy target now that a good portion of the group was shielded.

Environment Alert!

The Osales circled high above the group, cawing loudly. The animal was infuriated, wounded, bloodthirsty, and starved. Already it had secured a small meal, but it wasn't enough, the vulture needed more flesh to feed upon and the humans below were its best chance at a proper dinner. Continuing its observatory rounds the two spikes of earth that had pierced the right side of its chest earlier still remained in place. However, the one that injured its neck had already fallen out. Blood slowly dripped from the ugly wound, and all of the pain only served as a constant reminder of urgency. As it watched it again let out an angry cry as a number of its prey disappeared beneath a rising rock dome.

Flying above the humans that remained it tried to pick out the most vulnerable prey. Already the sky was deep blue as the sun had fallen below the horizon, the pale light that yet lingered was enough for the bird to see by and it had just chosen its target. Not far from the bird's first victim was a small blonde hunk of meat. The bird had been heading in Celethelel's direction until it noticed that stones were being thrown at it. At first it ignored them; the petty stones didn't phase the animal in the slightest and weren't enough for it to bother acknowledging. But then one hit a spike that protruded from its chest. Skwaking in pain the bird turned sharply and re-directed itself for Cici.

Flying directly at the warrior, the bird didn't even notice the water elemental behind her until it was too late. There were four sharp blades of water coming at it, two would miss but there was no way for it to avoid the two that remained.. Thankfully the first one made contact with its bone armor causing nothing more than a splash. The other attack had been better aimed and had sliced its upper chest. The wound wasn't very deep as the bird's keel protected it from any serious injury to the inner chest. The attack had been enough, however, to fracture the bone. The Osales had no inclination of this as it let out a battle cry and began a nose dive for Cecilia. At the last second it spread its wings and pulled up slightly. Extending its neck as it flew over Cici, only a few feet above her head; talons poised, and the flail on the end of its tail swinging down and straight for the warrior. At the same time, the bird exposed it's lower chest. It would only be for a brief second in which its tail swung in towards its belly, but a second none the less. It was also a difficult mark as there were still talons in the way of the animal's weakest point.

Meanwhile, the three twisters that had been created by Celethelel were released. At first it seemed all would be well as they spun themselves out. But then the third and final tornadoe picked up again and begancreating a force of its own. In no time at all it was out of control and moving towards the group. It was significantly weaker than it once was and would surely blow itself out but for now it was enough to be a threat to anyone whom was unprotected. As the vortex moved closer it began picking up dirt and rock and spitting it all over the place. This was not the biggest of their problems though, the twister was headed in a direct path for Yoren and anyone else who was still situated on the unstable cliff.

Tacita was not stupid. He could tell a few people had been left outside of his shelter. He knew that this excursion was close to coming to an end. And that just couldn't happen. As he had already been kneeling, Tacita needed make no movements in order to begin thinking. For one as old and lanky as he, standing and thinking became a chore. Until he could think of something, Tacita went back to what he had been doing before. He knew the earth elemental was out there, currently still attempting to hold the cliff up. Putting his energy back into repairing the earth, rather than just holding it in place, Tacita could only hope that the other man would be able to last just a little longer.

On the outside of the barrier, Cici was just about finish what she was doing. She had finally caught the attention of the bird, and she decided to finish this battle. When she saw the talons come up, she turned her arm so that her hand was palm up, and let the bird have her left arm. Just as it caught her arm, though, she grabbed it's foot. She suffered a rather...heavy injury on her forearm, but it allowed her to bring the bird closer to her. While her fingers struggled against her will, the sheer adrenaline and will of her warrior soul allowed her to yank the bird closer to herself as she drove her sword completely through the bird. She had apparently missed all important veins and arteries, as it was still trying to take her with it into hell.

That was something Cici was not going to allow to happen. Pulling her sword out in a shower of blood, the warrior dropped her sword and grabbed the birds neck, bringing it down into the ground with a sickening thud thundering atop the things head. This made the talons let go of their strong grasp, and Cici still held the birds neck in her right hand. Panting, and letting her injured arm hang and drip with blood, the warrior stood up and held the bird out.

Looking to her side, she saw the tornado that an elemental had summoned. While his intentions may have been helpful, it didn't seem to be doing that anymore. Quick thinking gave Cici an idea, though whether it was a good or bad one had yet to be seen. She drew back and threw the bird into the storm with all of her strength, the barely alive creature unable to scream due to a crushed wind pipe. She couldn't see the results, as she grabbed her sword and immediately retreated, but she hoped that perhaps the change in materials would ruin the chances of the tornado causing any more damage.
