Also, I've heard of and even met teachers who either don't assign homework, or assign it once in a blue moon, and their students do better academically than other classes.

You laugh, but sadly I'm not joking.

I know teachers usually mean well, but think about it like this. You've heard about the families that suffer because one parent (typically the father, but it can be either), is so immersed in his job that he "takes his work home", so he is still working on projects at home? That's very damaging to the family. That's precisely what homework is training you to do. neutral And not everyone falls into that same trap, but I think it's damaging enough to plenty of people.
