Just like that, the decision was made. David dropped his cigarette and stamped it out.

"This world is ********, anyway. Tha' tripods can have it. Let's go find yer dad."

The bounty hunter thought it over for a moment. This was certainly not something he'd ever expected from Xiomara in all the time he knew her. They had talked about a lot, but never had their personal lives come up. David was all too familiar with civil wars. The Confederacy had been in off and on skirmishes with the Union for eighty years until the Japs happened and they put aside their differences to fight a common enemy. Well, there was something their universes had in common. Somewhat. Alamo laid down by his feet, awaiting his master's command.

"Do ya' love yer old man?" David asked.

Something exploded above and the cellar trembled. The single light bulb hanging from the ceiling flickered.

David listened, taking a drag on his cigarette. He figured somebody would catch on at some point.

"So tha' jig is up, eh? Well, if ya' must know, tha' Chargers got paid ta' help combat these tripods. I'm jus' doin' my part. So what was this 'bout yer dad?"

Alamo jumped down into the cellar and David quickly followed and shut the doors just as something exploded above them.

"Not really sure. Everyone jus' calls 'em tripods."

David slung his weapon and lit a cigarette.

"So what did ya' need?"

David fired around the corner and quickly ducked back. A heat-ray seared the corned of the wall just next to him, leaving a smoking hole. He then nodded to a nearby cellar.

"Down there!" he shouted. "I'll be down in jus' a second!"
