Audrey was not just the school secretary or my friend's mom. Audrey was a strong and beautiful woman who I could jokingly call my own mother. She was diagnosed with breast cancer when her daughter and I were young, and she survived years beyond what the doctors had predicted. She passed just recently, on March 6. 2009. I'm comforted knowing that Audrey stayed true to her spirit and fought until the end.
