The Yellow Wall
Where we honor those that survived, those that did not, and those still fighting.
Jonathan Smith
A great friend of mine, and a leukemia survivor. He was diagnosed shortly after his best friend, Danny Craft, died of liver cancer. I remember him once saying that, when he was first diagnosed, that he thought it was just like Danny's, that he was going to die, just like Danny. Then he was told that his form of cancer was much more easily treated, and he had a greater chance. He had to miss so much school, and, as he got into high school, the work load had to be reduced so that he could stay on track to graduate with his class. He's such a smart guy. During my junior year, we were in the same Grammar class, and I remember that he had to go in for treatment once, and he was gone for months. He had gotten a staph infection from his port. But when he got back, he was doing great. His treatments have been greatly reduced now, and I am happy to say that he graduated on time, just barely missing honor graduate, and receiving the Principal's Award. He is now in college and I keep in touch with him regularly through facebook. He's a huge prankster with an unhealthy obsession with mimes, but a really great guy, who never brings up the fact that he has cancer just to bring it up for sympathy. I am very happy to say that I am great friends with Jonathan Smith.
