My mother was diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia in 1997 and subsequently received treatment at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle.
The chemotherapy left her with permanent memory deficits but the bone marrow transplant was a complete success; whereas most people are considered extraordinarily lucky to find an exact donor match, my mother had six perfect matches (out of twenty seven total).
She has been cancer free for nearly twelve years.
