The Mercenaries (update)
Okay, so I've got most of the character designs finished and a good chunk of the setting tweaked. I decided to scrap the alternate Earth thing because 1)the standard Earth is fine as is, and 2) I'm a lazy b*****d. I've been playing sections of story in my head so I don't forget it, and started doing rough sketches of the first few panels. Though, to be honest, I might try and enlist my friend to do the actual comic. She's way better at it than I am, and I know. I've seen her little manga projects and compared them to my own. Then again, I'm not the most persuasive person in real life, so I might as well just go solo. I really, REALLY wish I could show you my sketchwork, but my scanner is still a little haywire, and I don't want to risk damage to the system.

The Mercenaries (potential new story)
All right, so the story that I had kicking around wasn't going to work out; it was too complicated, too long drawn out. I wanted something fresh. So I got to work, and began to piece together this little diddy.
The story is as of yet unnamed, though for now I'm calling it The Mercenaries. Here's how it goes.
It takes place on an alternate version of Earth (it's only alternate so I can fiddle with the geography). The undead have become a very real problem. Zombies wander aimlessly across the land, attacking and killing innocents, and their victims only add to their numbers. For the most part, they are contained. Each country has an area known as a Bastion. This is the area where the zombies have been rounded up and contained. However, occasionally, zombies break through the blockade and cause havoc for the local populace.
Each countries military is putting almost all their effort into containing the zombies, so there aren't enough to go after the ones that get out. Thus, mercenary troops who specialized in zombie hunting were in huge demand.
This story follows one of those mercenary troops, and the trials they face both on the field and at 'home'. They will eventually get caught up in a plan to deal a significant blow to the zombie population, only to find that it is spiraling down to something more sinister.
The Good guys: The mercenary troop at the center of this story has yet to be named. But each character is based off myself and people I know IRL. I just find it easier to design a character around someone I know.
The Bad guys: Necromancers are people that have found a way to influence or even outright control the actions of the undead. The number of known Necromancers has yet to be determined.
Neutral: The military and other mercenary troops will have a near constant presence throughout the story, not to mention the people who offer the contracts.
It's still in it's infant stages; I've got to work out the geography, finish character desgin, ect. But when I've got this thing running full swing I'd like to make it into a web comic. =D

What a piece of work is man...
I have of late - but wherefore I know not - lost all my mirth, Forgone all custom of exercises; and indeed it goes so heavily With my disposition, that this goodly frame, the earth, seems to me A sterile promontory. This most excellent canopy, the air, look you, This brave o'erhanging firmament, this majestical roof fretted with Golden fire, why, it appears no other thing to me than a foul And pestilential congregation of vapours. What a piece of work Is man! How noble in reason! How infinite in faculty! In form and Moving how express and admirable! In action how like an angel, in Apprehension how like a god! The beauty of the world; the paragon Of animals! And yet to me, what is this quintessence of dust? Man Delights not me... -Hamlet-
My favorite speech from one of the most plays in the world. It speaks to me; really nails it on the head with my feelings toward humanity today.
Yey for snippets!
