Faster Than Sound – Memory 002
Hayao found himself sitting at his office in Squad 2, staring down at his desk as he took a slow breath. He had finished all of his paperwork for the day, and had in fact already done all of the paperwork for the entire squad. He rubbed at his face, before starting up the Shiryoku. “Hello, this is Hayao Kurosaki, current 3rd seat of Squad 2, and this is my second recording using the device known as the Shiryoku. Sensei stated that the first recording went without a problem, but he wants me to continue on with making recordings, so it seems that he was pleased with the results… Anyway, I suppose I should just get to the recording; there is no telling when I might be needed again…”
He took another slow breath, closing his eyes as he focused on a memory. “It was a few weeks back… well, at least for everyone within the Seireitei that is. The Captain-Commander had set up a small tournament in order to raise spirits of everyone, as well as see how everyone’s training was coming along. I made it all the way to the semi-finals without any trouble, before I found myself going against an opponent that no one had seen battle before; Sasuke Aizen. I knew I shouldn’t have taken him so lightly, but I let the idea that my speed would protect me blind me, and I was beaten soundly…”
His eyes glossed over as he slumped over his desk, drifting into the beginning of the memory.

Hayao slowly sat up with the help of his sister, not looking her in the face. His speed had never failed him before, yet he knew at that very moment his sister was feeling just as badly as he was. Sasuke was a uniquely powerful individual, and like his father, he used his Zanpaku-tō as skillfully as any Captain, and its ability was unlike any other. Although it had very little offensive capabilities, its power allowed it to recreate any Zanpaku-tō that was not currently owned by any Shinigami. In his battle against Hayao, he matched Hayao’s speed and showed that it was not only a Shinigami’s blade that he could copy, defeating Hayao using Ulquiorra Cifer’s sword; Murciélago. Combined with the recreation of his own father’s sword, he used illusions to forced Hayao to see Ulquiorra as his opponent, making it hard for Hayao to actually read his moves.
As they walked out of the arena, Hayao spoke lowly to his sister, yet still did not look to her. “I could not even beat him… what good was all my training for?”
Hoku shook her head, “He beat me too, and using his strength to show me how powerless I was…” She then stopped him, “We cannot let this be the end of it…”
Hayao looked to her, nodding with a smirk. “Alright… get a change of clothes and meet me at the spot, we are going in to train once more.”
Hoku blinked, before smirking herself. “Sounds fun. Next time, I will leave him in a crumbled heap…”
The two moved off to get some clothes, before making their way to where they had been trained since the day they could walk. This special training area was another created by Kisuke Urahara, but this held a special ability. Time moved at an accelerated rate within the training grounds, meaning that they could spend years within its confines, while only days passed elsewhere.
Once inside, the siblings moved off in different directions to work on their own unique traits. Hayao would not allow his speed to be beaten ever again, not even by Yoruichi sensei. He would pull out the Nijū, forcing his energy into it to make it to where it would transform into a copy of Hayao. Hayao then jumped back, looking at it with steely eyes, “Now… come at me!”
Within their time inside of the training grounds, Hayao had pushed himself to the limit every day so that he could grow stronger. It was his last training session with the Nijū before they were to head back, and Hayao had yet to open his eyes as the doppelganger rushed at him. Its speed was unlike any others, safe for the person it represented, yet when it aimed to strike, Hayao caught its wrist. His eyes shot open suddenly, as he spun and threw the doppelganger upwards and into the air. He then pushed off hard, leaping up after the duplicate, catching up to it and looking as though he was about to strike from above, before he completely vanished. The doppelganger looked around quickly, trying to track down its opponent, before Hayao appeared behind it. However, when he reappeared, it would seem as though there were three copies of him, each wielding his sealed Zanpaku-tō. As the copy turned to try and block, all three sliced from a different angle, yet each blow hit at the exact same time and in the exact same spot.
The doppelganger had tried to block with its own copied blade, but the slash not only cut through it easily, but also at first made no sound. After a moment, a sudden eruption from the strike was heard as Hayao landed and sheathed his sword. As the cross guard met the sheath, the doppelganger exploded into pieces, showering down broken parts all around him. Hayao smiled and nodded, looking down at the prayer beads that were wrapped around his right hand and up part of his forearm. “Even without dropping the weights… I was able to achieve the strike at the desired speed…” He slowly looked towards where the ladder would be. “I should meet up with Hoku… she will be mad if I make her wait any longer…”
He turned and made his way slowly to meet up with his sister, ready to go back after 14 years of training within these grounds, yet it had only been two weeks to those within the Seireitei.

Hayao groaned as he sat up, rubbing the back of his neck, smiling slightly. “This should make it easier on me… yet not really… Yoruichi sensei is going to make me give her hands on training…” He looked to the window, a cat-like grin coming to his lips. “I plan on proving that no one can match my speed… My Illusion Step is my ultimate strike… it is even faster than Shunkō…”
He stood up, and packed away the Shiryoku so he could take it to Kisuke. “I better go and pass this along… I am sure he too will have questions…”
