Tomorrow morning I get the great, untold pleasure of writing a test that is so fantastically dumbed down that a sufficiently motivated third grader could do it. I have to do this to prove that I am literate, which one would think is someone evident already. How the hell else would I have a 97% in English?
Anyway, my problem is not with the test itself. The test makes sense. It is necessary to make sure that everyone is literate. My problem is with the retarded 'pre-test' schedule we've been following for the past week.
Think about it for a moment. What is the purpose of the literacy test? The purpose of the literacy test is to insure that students are literate enough to get by in their day to day lives. It is supposed to prove that we are sufficiently literate anywhere, anytime. So why is it that we have to do pre-tests and prepare for several weeks beforehand? Isn't that counter productive? Isn't that completely scewing the numbers?
Why, yes. Yes it is.
