Love in the Most Unexpected Places By: golden eyes009 (Raine)
Prologue
A lot of things can happen to a person. They could be betrayed, treated like trash and beaten physically and emotionally. Or maybe good things could happen, like loving someone, being loved back, or even having children with that love. Things like that are sometimes called bliss or a gift from God. To other people, it can hurt and scar your soul fro life. It depends on the kind of love the person gives you. The story that I’m about to tell you is this kind of love story. There is love that satisfies and love that scars. This love is hidden from all eyes, even the sharpest and smartest minds could not even detect a hint of like. To those people, it was a one-night stand. To him, it was a one-night stand. To her, it was a drastic life turnaround that even God wouldn’t have predicted. It’s like finding love in unexpected places.
Chapter One
Deep in the forests of Japan, the night lay upon the forest. Although the almost full moon shone brightly among the sky, the moonlight strained to reach the forest floor. With the think branches and many leaves sprouting from them, not even a drop of moonlight fell onto the black blanket that lay upon the forest floor. A small nearby creek rippled quietly, whispering to the rocks and pebbles surrounding the water. Nothing stirred from their hiding place. The entire forest fell into a quiet slumber. High in the sky, a sparkle of gold glistened among the pure white stars. As the sparkle moved more toward the moon, it turned out that the gold shimmering in the sky was a crimson, winged creature flying across the moon. Once the animal came out of the moon’s view, it was once again swallowed up by darkness; the twinkling gold still visible among the stars. Far ahead of the creature was a clearing with a building in the middle of it. The building was a fairly large Japanese-style tea house with a wooden board in front of the sturdy steps, saying ‘Welcome to Lady Minako’s Jasmine Dragon Tea House’. The sliding rice-paper doors grew paler with the moonlight shining down on the tea house. The winged animal spotted the building and flew in to land on the dew-covered grass. About ten feet above the ground, the animal started to glow a light brighter than the sun itself. As the illumination reached the ground and slowly faded, a young girl stood in place of the winged creature. A slight breeze blew, making her long, flowing crimson hair dance with it beautifully. Her golden eyes gleamed in the moonlight. She walked pacingly toward the Jasmine Dragon and slid the door open. She turned her head and looked around with anxious eyes. Once she felt that there wasn’t a presence hiding in the trees, she let out a small sigh of relief and walked into the tea house; closing the rice-paper doors behind her. A dark-haired man walked to her with a warm smile and his voice soothingly handsome. “Welcome back, Miss Raine.” He bowed his head politely. The young girl bowed her head in reply. She took off her shoes and placed them on a small rack against the stained-wooden walls; lifting herself up the step and next to the man. “Am I late, Takashi?” Raine asked in a gentle voice. Takashi shook his head slightly. “Not at all, Miss Raine. In fact, you’re right on time.” The red-haired girl gave the man a small smile. “I guess there’s a first time for everything. I thought that I’d be in trouble with Lady Minako if I was late again.” “I’m sure that my Lady would understand.” He motioned her to walk with him and they moved to the end of the hallway. “How was your training today? Did your trainer give you tedious work?” Raine groaned softly and slumped her shoulders. “Hiro-sensei told me to test my strength by lifting some heavy boulders in the mountains.” Takashi let out a hearty chuckle. “It seems he’s got you working to the bone. But don’t worry, Miss Raine, your training will get easier and your goal will soon be at reach.” Raine’s small smile grew slightly bigger. “You tell me that every night, Takashi.” They came to two large, wooden doors at the end of the dimly-lit hallway. The doors were brilliantly carved with a Chinese dragon on each door, every scale decorated with parts of jade and speckles of gold. Takashi placed his rough yet gentle hands on the jade doorknobs and turned his head in Raine’s direction. “I only say it to you,” he said with amusement twinkling in his green eyes.
