Adventure #6 The Sudden Snow
Kali and Gwee flew onward towards the south. They flew for several days, never finding any signs of the ducks. Kali at first had seemed confident of her choice to fly south with the ducks, but since had become less optimistic. She had been sure she would've found some sign of the ducks by now. Was she not flying fast enough? Kali was worried.
One night, Kali stared at the stars, shivering a bit, finding it hard to sleep. Gwee was tossing and turning in her sleep, and Kali sighed. Maybe this had been a mistake. Gwee turned over again and started crying in her sleep, and shouted "MOMMY!" Kali didn't know what to do anymore...maybe...they should just go back...
The next day, the temperature started dropping rapidly. "KALI I AM COLD!" Gwee cried. Her voice almost was lost to the heavy winds.
"IT'LL BE OK GWEE! JUST KEEP ON FLYING!" Kali said confidently, even though she didn't feel confident at all.
That was when the sky burst open, letting loose a downpour of snow. So much snow that neither one of the two could see. "WE HAVE TO LAND KALI!" Gwee shouted loudly.
Kali knew this to be true. Her fairy wings were becoming too heavy. She knew they had to find shelter. Or else they would freeze!
Kali and Gwee started towards the ground. "WHAT IS THAT?" Gwee shouted pointing at a darker spot on the ground, barely visible through the thick snow.
"I THINK IT IS A HOUSE!" Kali said, as they got closer to it. "WE CAN TAKE SHELTER IN THERE!"
The two landed at the doorstep, quickly threw open the door and ran inside.
"This is much better," Gwee said. "LOOK A FIRE!"
"Wait, a fire?" Kali said. "Someone must live here..."
"SOMEONE?" A manly voice came from the other room. Kali and Gwee both jumped into each other's arms. "No, I'm pretty sure my name is Ryan."
The man walked out, dressed in the strangest attire Kali and Gwee had ever seen.
"I'm SORRY SIR!" Gwee shouted trying to open the door, only to find that it was blocked by snow.
"Now, now." Ryan said, smiling down upon the two. "No need to be afraid. Unlike Yaris here who is afraid of everything!" Ryan said jestering towards the Sno Yeti clinging to his leg.
"AH!" Yaris trying to hide himself even more.
"Anyway, you can't leave now. Too much snow. We can all just stay here." Ryan said. "I promise I won't bite. Make yourself at home"
"Really?" Gwee said. She seemed happier now. She flew over to the fire and sighed happily.
"Thank you Ryan!" Kali said, taking off her wings.
"So now, tell me your names. Why were you out in that snow storm?"
"I'm Kali, she is Gwee." Kali said pointing at her sister who was cuddled up in front of the fire. "We were flying south looking for ducks. You see, I'm a duck! QUACK!"
Yaris jumped and ran behind a chair when Kali quacked. Ryan sat down in the chair and picked Yaris up in his lap. "Oh are you a duck now?" He looked around the room and thought for a moment. "Well since it looks like we will be here for awhile, we should do something to pass the time. Let's all tell stories!"
"Stories?" Kali said. "I don't have any stories!"
"Such an interesting duck like you doesn't have any stories to tell? Sure you do. YOU GO FIRST!" Ryan said, keeping a grip on Yaris as he attempted to run away when Ryan yelled.
"Well...I do have a story..." Kali said, sitting on the chair next to Ryan. "Once upon a time..."
