Chapter one
As I sat in my desk, I saw that there was only 5 minutes left before the end of the final. Finally my fifth period final, English. Who can possibly fail a test on Greek mythology and poetry? My best friends, Rika Sakura, and Tori Blackwell were sitting beside me. They too have been done for the past half-hour. Mr. Gibbon was sitting at his desk, eyeing me impatiently, just as I had been doing to those that were scrambling to finish the exam. I gave him an innocent shrug. He didn’t fall for it. Then we all heard the most beautiful sound in the world. That annoying bell to signify the end of class! “Ms. Draaca, can I please see you for a moment?” Mr. Gibbon asked. “We’ll catch up with ya at Priss’ locker.” Rika said pushing up the short mauve spikes that made up her pixie-cut hair. “I’m not a priss! You Jock!” Tori came back, twisting her long blonde hair over her shoulder. “Okay, see you guys in a minute.” I walked back to Mr. Gibbon’s desk shaking my head at Rika and Tori’s childish behaviour. “You wanted to see me Mr. G.” Gibbon just raised an eyebrow and nodded. “ Ms. Draaca, have you ever considered a career in psychology?” “Actually yes. And past with flying colours.” Again his eyebrow rose. “Morrganna, have you any plans for your future? Every time I have a class discussion, you seem to drift off. I’ve been meaning to talk to you for a while, but I can’t pry you away from Ms. Blackwell, and Ms. Sakura.” I swallowed. “Well, I don’t really have any plans.” “Well then, phone this number. “ He gave me a business card. “And they’ll do something for you. Just tell them that Gibbon told you to.” “Ah, thank you?” I walked out of the classroom, looking the card over. All it said was, Fantasy Jobs, 784-2433. “Right.” I droned, flipped my cherry red hair off my shoulder, hiked my shoulder bag higher on my shoulder, and walked to Tori’s locker. Near the beginning of the year, both Rika and me lost the locks to our lockers. Thankfully nothing was stolen, but the school wouldn’t give us new locks, so Rika, Tori, and me shared one locker. Thankfully none of us has a lot of stuff to put into it, except me with my 2 extra textbooks. “Morg! We were beginning to think that Gibbon ate you!” Tori exclaimed as I neared. “No, only Priss was. I was beginning to think that you killed him, and you were trying to hide the body.” Rika grinned sardonically. I rolled my eyes, and grabbed my other textbooks and my backpack. “I still have some books to take back. I’ll see you guys tomorrow?” “Sure. At the Pandora‘s Box, like always.” “Okay.” I nod once. “I’ll see you guys there.” I start walking to the classroom that the school turned into textbook returns. I did the usual giving back the texts, with little to no hassle. But as I started to leave, one of the teachers stopped me. “Ms. Draaca, you forgot your book.” Mrs. Kin called. I turned around. “What book?” “This most amazing book on The Occult. The history of Witchcraft.” She held it out. It was a plain leather covered old-fashioned book. I frowned. “I don’t--” “No, it’s yours. See” Mrs. Kin opened the front cover, and there in my own writing was my name. “Uh, thank you?” I replied, taking the book and walking off. As I walked I looked over the book, confused. I walked out of Walter Murray Collegiate, and into the student parking lot, where my candy apple red, 2005 Mustang GT, was parked. I put the book on the passengers seat, and walked around to slide into the driver’s side. I started the car, and put down the roof, smiling as the warm sun beat down in my face. “I seriously need a tan.” I murmured to myself after catching my reflection in the rear-view mirror. I sighed and drove out of the parking lot. I put one of my many Elvis mix c.d.’s into the player, and sang, off key, to “Little Less Conversation” the remix version. At least no one can say that I have bad timing when singing, it’s the keys I have issues with. Stopped at a red light, I start dancing as the song changes to “Jail House Rock”. A group of 4 guys in a 1986 ½ mustang stopped beside me. A few of them started wolf whistling, while the last guy told them to knock it off. As the light turned green, I nodded to the last guy, who looked oddly familiar. The rest of the drive home, was uneventful, unless you find potholes galore interesting. I’ve lived in the same house since I was a child. When I turned 14, a strange influenza wiped out my entire family, except me. Right after everyone’s death, a mysterious benefactor came into my life. Through my lawyer, my benefactor tells me to take the 2 thousand a month; she gives me, and have some fun. She’s always insisting that I continue my education, but is happy when I go out and just have fun. I parked my mustang in the driveway, and made a mental note to power wash the driveway later. I grabbed my bag from the back seat, and picked up the book. I walked into the house, threw my stuff on the table and pressed the play button on my answering machine, and started to pour water into a kettle. The machine went through the normal messages. My Lawyer, the bank, telemarketers, Rika and Tori’s moms asking me if I need anything, (they’re always trying to take care of me, the sweet women). Then I heard a voice that made me drop the kettle. It was a voice I only hear in my dreams…my Aunt Morrigan! “Morrganna Draaca. If I didn’t know better I’d think you never left you childhood home.” I stood there shocked. “Now my dear, you knew that I wasn’t dead. Oh my little Morrganna. Please, I want to see you. I miss you dearly. Come to Western Development Museum, at 8 o’clock tomorrow. It will be nice to see you again my dear. Slane Ayd.” “Slane Ayd graih nauntee.” I whispered ’good bye beloved auntie’ in Gaelic. The only people in my family that knew Gaelic, was Aunt Morrigan and I. “8 o’clock.” I looked at the grandfather clock. Its face was decorated with planets, stars, suns, and moons. “I’ll be there Auntie…”
