TonePrint Enabled Reverb Pedal
It is of course common sense that before buying any of the fancy effect pedals, you should probably invest some of your money in a best guitar tuner that you can fit into your budget. I'm really asking myself what would be the best solution for home pratice, between having a small amp, and a digital processor (like Line 6 Pro). Let me explain: I do onw a bunch of pedals (let's say 30), that many used to be played with a Fender Twin Reverb when I was playing in a band. And in every situation, I'd like to be able to use my collection of pedals (many of them are dedicated to gilmourish tone, by the way, the others to hendrix to early randy Rhoads and VH tones). So in my humble opinion, analog will always be better than digital for these types of circuits.

As well as documenting my gear and music, this website is also home to the Shep On Bass blog, featuring a range of interviews with musicians who use effects as a major part of their set up as well as designers and builders of effects pedals. Or you might want an aggressive delay really bringing out the rhythmic qualities of the effect, so you would set the effect level higher.

Figure 2. Example of aliasing where a 10kHz guitar signal (top black curve) is sampled at 10kHz and the resulting digital signal is only 50Hz. What a digital guitar pedal circuit does is use a program which is stored in the pedal and processes the sampled sound from the input of the pedal. Some digital pedals, such as a POD, do a great job of F-Pedals modeling different amps and pedals.

The Alexander Pedals F.13 Flanger combines out-of-this-world alien flanger effects with an Area 51 inspired visual aesthetic to produce some interesting flanging not found in any other pedal. The iconic DOD brand has been making a comeback under Digitech lately (we mentioned the Boneshaker in our Winter NAMM 2015 roundup), and they've just re-released a couple of their classic pedals: the DOD Meatbox Subsynth & Gonkulator Ringmod. It has an aggressive, squashed fuzz tone and sounds like a potential standout fuzz in Daredevil's growing lineup of guitar pedals. I've long loved the Rivera Venus 5 specifically for its clean foundation stacking with pedals.

Important thing to note is that these tuners work best in a silent environment since most of the people will use the built-in microphone on the tuner, which also picks up all the background noise. We personally compared them together at a guitar store and the Yamaha seemed to have a much better response when using the microphone, especially while tuning in a environment where there are people talking and other instruments playing in the background. You just insert the Multimedia/DS Card from the Philips Digital Pocket Memos for instant playback!

This controller can be used similarly to the Behringer or Roland pedal boards since it can trigger virtual pedals and effects on your computer, but it does much more. A controller with as many options as the SoftStep would require a bit more practice for someone who is new to it since there is no analog equivalent, but once it has been incorporated into your set, it allows you to play" the MIDI controller more like an instrument, as opposed to being a row of on/off switches. This device profile series specifies the CANopen interface for modules with analog and digital inputs and outputs.

As with our previous Best Pedals of NAMM" articles it's important to note that these initial impressions DO NOT constitute our final review verdicts. The musical cacophony of the NAMM Show floor isn't the most optimal listening environment, and features, specs, and sounds may change before some of these pedals are released. These are simply the pedals we're most excited about based on what we saw and heard at Summer NAMM 2015. While other companies have attempted to create a true spring reverb in stompbox form, these pedals have typically been large unruly monsters that take up a ton of pedalboard space.
