Times can be tough, and people can be mean. One is often the reason for the other, but sometimes there isn't a reason, and sometimes there's no one to blame. This is when life can be most confusing for people, and it's during these times that people get most lost. Shadows can become twisted into monsters, a straight path can become crooked and gnarled, and the world can become a dark and horrible place.
How we see life is dictated by how we currently feel, and, if we're always feeling bad, then life as we imagine it is a terrible and pointless nightmare that never goes away.
The thing with nightmares is that they are distortions of reality and rarely represent the whole truth. They're the brew of a burdened mind, concocted from sorrow, or guilt, or anger, or hate. They are products of our own fears, regrets and insecurities. And if a nightmare is how you view life, then you've allowed that nightmare to overrun your spirit. It's with this in mind that we acknowledge that what becomes of the nightmare -- and of ourselves -- depends on how we choose to deal with our own issues.
And so, when a moment seems especially hopeless, or when a juncture in time seems especially pointless and bleak; just remember what a nightmare really is. It twists, it cracks, it buries, and it tries to do the same thing to you. But if you stand your ground, and you work to see it through, a nightmare becomes the illusion that we know it to be.
