Like a year ago i got in my hand a quite interesting album full of rock and metal songs. I never heard of the artist before, his name: Pat Boone.
A little background: Acording to Wikipedia, Pat Boone is an "American singer, actor, and writer" and lists his genres as "Christian, pop, country, rock and roll, patriotic" (never in my life heard of the "patriotic" genre, but i never heard of this guy before). To me, his genre is more of a Big Band kind of, with hit songs like this one, this other one, and wtf is this? But yea, old ladies kind of love him.
You must think that i am high, because in the very first sentence i said that i got an album with rock songs, this dude definetely is not rock much less metal.
Now is when the things get weird. Weird in a Hayseed Dixie way.
According to the text from the inlay booklet of the cd, in 1997 someone jokingly suggested him to record a metal album. His career started along with rock and roll, but he never was part of the rock movement, specially after the 60's started.
And he decided to do the album. And it is a very weird album. Very. It has songs like "Smoke on the Water", "Holy Diver" (This song is badass no matter the genre), one of my fav version of "No more Mr. Nice Guy", and, believe it or not, the most awkward and creepy version of "Enter Sandman", among other classic rock songs (but certainly not as creepy as that last one).
The funny thing is that this was after he became a christian singer or something, so obviously all his christians fans were disgusted with him for playing the devil's music.
Well that was one of the most weird cover album i have ever heard.
