"I Won't Say I'm in Love" song, "Reflection", Translation
Got this entry from "Megara from Hercules is such a defining textbook example that her song from the film ("I Won't Say I'm in Love" wink has more or less become the official anthem of every type-A Tsundere ever. And Youtube is rife with fanmade music videos to prove it."

"I Won't Say I'm in Love" (English)
"I Won't Say I'm in Love" (Japanese)
(links don't allow apostrophes)

I haven't really seen the movie in from beginning to end properly. But anyway, lol. I love both versions. Once, when I found the Japanese, it was on repeat. I thought the Japanese was very lovely. The English has its quality &3.

I love Mulan's Reflection (English) (by Lea Salonga). Always have. For obvious reasons. It's a beautiful short song ♥

"Who is that girl I see ~ ?
Staring straight,
Back at me?
Why is my reflection someone
I don't know?
Somehow, I cannot hide ~
Who I am,
Though I've tried.
When will my reflection show ...
Who I am inside?
When will my reflection show who I am inside?

Reflection (Mandarin) (By CoCo Lee)
Reflection (Mandarin version 2)
(I tried to ignore the visual component. The beginning of her song is a little too rushed for my liking ... But later, it's very nice.)

In the first version, it's weird she skips the "look at me." I wanted to hear it!
She starts with "Why ... (is it) I can't..." (Wèi shé me ... wǒ què bù nén) instead of "I will never pass for a..." (English) o.o ...
They have similar meanings, but the Mandarin gets right into it straight away.
The second version, I can't tell because of the pronunciation what she's saying > >

The Mandarin versions are two different songs. They don't even use the same words! (Speaking of words, for Mandarin, you won't know what the sentence means until it's finished; you need to know the context to know which word is being used)
Like seriously. In the first one, 0:20 "I know .. if I" (Wǒ zhīdào ... rúguǒ wǒ) and 0:28 "I will" (wǒ huì) -goes to search the pinyin Dx-
And in the second version, 0:26 - what the heck is that?? Dx Sounds like "Ker rou sh-uh" .... .__. "Wo bei ja jhao" and at 0:34 "I will" is completely missing. "Dìng huì shǐ I don't know what it means ._.

Apparently, the second Mandarin version is from Mainland (where? China?) and the first one is from Taiwan.

Let's see if I can translate 8'D
-want to try translating something for once-
I put spaces for you! C: (Edit: But it's all spaced with the translation now so never mind)

My translation is FOR FUN. Don't use it sweatdrop I'm actually only certain on the last two lines of the first verse, those I know, and 98% certain on the first line of the first verse (ie: I'm not sure what the 'què' is for ...). If I put question marks, I don't know. For the second line of the second verse, it depends on if I picked the right context of one word to start with. If I didn't know what the word meant, it would be an entirely different sentence. There are only two lines I have no idea about ._.

I think "qù zhuīxún qù nàhǎn" is 'go seek out, go cheer', but I'm not sure. The 'qù' doesn't only mean 'to go' > > It might be right because it fits the former, "open my heart" so I kept 'go seek out, go cheer.'

"Wèishéme wǒ yǎn lǐ kàn dào de zhǐyǒu wǒ" is loosely translated because if you literally word-for-word translate then put them side-by-side together in a sentence -- which NEVER works for Mandarin - you can't do that -- it would look like "Why I in my eyes saw only me" ... whiiiiich doesn't make sense. If you look at the definitions (some words can have more than one character (ie: qù: 趣 or 去) and thus, different meanings for the "same" word; keep in mind, I only put the ones I used) I included after each verse, you can put them together if you'd like. I did the same with "Wèishéme wǒ què bù nénggòu chéngwéi hǎo xīn niáng" and "Què zài cǐ shí juéde lí tā hǎo yáoyuǎn."

(I think, in the second version, she has the China accent for Mandarin, where it sounds like she over-pronounces some syllables (ie: daughter: Nǔ ěr and she uses a sharp 'er' rather than softly pronounce it like you would any syllable) I don't know if anyone can tell. It's normal to them, but for people who use the Taiwanese Mandarin, it'll sound weird lol. And vice versa; China Mandarin users will think Taiwanese Mandarin pronunciation sounds odd.)

[SECOND MANDARIN VERSION PINYIN] -spaced for you-

"Kàn kàn wǒ (look at me) bù shì diē niang shēn páng de guāi nǚ'ér (obedient daughter)

Oh my god, there's another version (by CoCo Lee)? O.o (Pop song version)

[--- 歌詞 / Lyrics ---]

Verse 1:
仔細的, 看著波光中清晰的倒影
zì xǐ de, kàn zhe bō guāng zhōng qīng xī de dào yǐng
Carefully, looking at the distinct reflection in the center of the glistening light of waves

是另一個自己
shì lìng yī ge zì jǐ
It's another self of me

它屬於, 我最真實的表情
tā shǔ yú wǒ zuì zhēn shí de biǎo qíng
It's a part of me, the most real expression of myself

不願意, 生活中掩飾真心敷衍了
bú yuàn yì, shēng huó zhōng yǎn shì zhēn xīn fū yǎn le
Not willing, in life to have a half heartedly concealed sincerity

愛我的人的眼睛
ài wǒ de rén de yǎn jīng
In the eyes of those who love me

Verse 2:
我, 心中的自己
wǒ xīn zhōng de zì jǐ
My self within my heart

每一秒, 都願意
měi yī miǎo, dōu yuàn yì
Every second, is completely willing

為愛放手去追尋, 用心去珍惜
wéi ài fàng shǒu qù zhuī xún, yòng xīn qù zhēn xī
For love - to let go of searching, and diligently treasure it

Verse 3:
隱藏在, 心中每一個真實的心情
yǐn cáng zài xīn zhōng, měi yī ge zhēn shí de xīn qíng
Concealed, within my heart every real frame of mind

現在釋放出去
xiàn zài shì fàng chū qù
Now will be released

我想要, 呈現世界前更有力量的
wǒ xiǎng yào, chéng xiàn shì jiè qián gèng yǒu lì liàng de
I want, to appear stronger before the world

更有勇氣的生命
gèng yǒu yǒng qì de shēng mìng
Living a more courageous life

Verse 4:
我, 眼中的自己
wǒ, yǎn zhōng de zì jǐ
I, in my eyes

每一天, 都相信
měi yī tiān, dōu xiāng xìn
Every day, completely believe

活得越來越像我愛的自己
huó de yuè lái yuè xiàng wǒ ài de zì jǐ
In living to be more and more like the self I love

我心中的自己
wǒ xīn zhōng de zì jǐ
My self within my heart

每一秒, 都願意
měi yī miǎo, dōu yuàn yì
Every second, is completely willing

為愛放手去追尋, 用心去珍惜
wéi ài fàng shǒu qù zhuī xún, yòng xīn qù zhēn xí
For love - to let go of searching, and diligently treasure it

只有愛裡才擁有, 自由氣息
zhǐ yǒu ài lǐ cái yōng yǒu, zì yóu qì xí
Only when there is love, will I possess the freedom to breathe

誠實, 面對自己才有愛的決心
chéng shí, miàn duì zì jǐ cái yǒu ài de jué xīn
Only when I honestly confront myself will I have love's determination

Verse 5:
我, 眼中的自己
wǒ, yǎn zhōng de zì jǐ
I, myself in my eyes

每一天, 都相信
měi yī tiān, dōu xiāng xìn
Everyday, completely believe

活得越來越像我愛的自己
huó de yuè lái yuè xiàng wǒ ài de zì jǐ
In living to be more and more like the self I love

我心中的自己
wǒ xīn zhōng de zì jǐ
Within my heart

每一秒, 都願意
měi yī miǎo, dōu yuàn yì
Every second, is completely willing

為愛放手去追尋, 去珍惜, 去愛
wéi ài fàng shǒu qù zhuī xún, qù zhēn xí, qù ài
For love - to let go of searching, and diligently treasure it, and love

為愛放手去追尋, 用心去珍惜

For love - to let go of searching, and diligently treasure it
