[Self-Titled]
It's a Journal-- What else do you want from it?
Name: Nereus Coreander
Age: 18
Homeworld: Embril
Title: Prince(ess) of Heart [Water]

Personality: A prodigy; a blessing on my people; the gift of Heaven to my parents, long without child; the future of the kingdom. A monster, some say, when they think I can't hear them. I've heard these kinds of conflicting opinions for so long that I don't have any opinion myself: If I'm a monster, then I will still be their King and they should remember their place. I do love my parents, of course, like any child would, but I'm by no means sure of their own feelings: My father is often busy, and though I think my mother cares I feel as if she sees someone else when she looks at me. I keep to myself, mostly, because I prefer intelligent conversation and such a thing is sadly lacking in so many people; I supposed you could also call me arrogant or aloof, though I haven't had much interaction with anyone who would dare. I'm a little competitive, and my upbringing as a royal has left me expecting people to do things like cook and clean for me, so I've never had to go without. I... I'm not lonely! I don't know who'd imply it, but that's a bold-faced lie!

History: The world of Embril is something like Earth of the Victorian Age: Horse-drawn carriages are still the preferred mode of transportation, even if many of the horses are made of iron and run on steam, and technology is a blend of steam, clockwork, and electricity generated by the same. Magis, such as it is, is largely unknown, and the ruling family has does much to discourage the use of magic among the common folk. The King and Queen, however, were getting on in age, until suddenly like a fairy-tale two beautiful little children appeared... but there had been no sign of pregnancy in the Queen prior to this miraculous birth, and the infants possessed striking features: The girl, named Melusine, had brilliant piercing blue eyes, and her brother shared this features... but he was flawed, his right eye a deformity both beautiful and unnatural. Some said that the children were witchborn, that the king had produced them with one of the rusalka ice-fae said to linger in the far corners of the world, but the kingdom needed heirs and the world needed a girl of royal blood to become a Princess of Heart. And so it was that the children were raised as prince and princess, and Melusine was enshrined as Princess of Water, and the boy – Nereus – was given an eyepatch that could contain the power of his “cursed” eye.

When the children were six years of age, they were left to play along the banks of a spring in the countryside as their nursemaids set up their luncheon. The boy came back alone, claiming that a pale woman took his sister away; combing the countryside and dredging the rivers produced no results, and sinister rumors began to circulate, that the strange young prince had caused his sister's death. Of course the King and Queen put an end to such talk, but the Queen never seemed to put it completely out of her mind: Perhaps she had always been suspicious, in the end, but her love for her remaining child was tinged with a distance and a distrust. More importantly, with Melusine gone Embril no longer had someone who could carry on the legacy of Princess of Heart-- But somehow, as if through a mystic transference, the sages of Caer Embril determined that this status had passed to her brother (or had been his all along). And so Nereus was officially declared the Prince of Water, and so did he live out his days until the War arrived.

I like: Cool, even cold temperatures; clean places; not being bored.
I dislike: Hot and/or dusty places, gossip and rumormongers, physical labor.

Species: It's generally concluded that I'm not entirely human, though what the rest of me is remains up for debate.

Faction/Allies: Technically, I suppose my official title is “Princess of Water,” which means I'm allied with the Princesses of Heart for now. But with a single glance you should be able to gather that I am not a woman, so I prefer the title Prince. You would do well to keep this in mind.

Element: Water

Signature Weapon: A dagger called the Key of Coreander. Vaguely ominous-sounding, isn't it? And considering that magic is restricted in my world... But that's beside the point. The Key of Coreander is one of the Three Treasures of my family's house, artifacts said to have accompanied our first ancestor as he took the throne of the land: The dagger is imbued with powerful magic that amplifies water and ice spells, and so long as it's held it allows the user to breathe underwater and have effective immunity to the effects of ice. It, like the other Three Treasures, can only be activated by one of Coreander blood; for anyone else, it's simply a knife with a sharp edge. The other two Treasures are similar in make and appearance: One is the Crown of Coreander, worn by my father, and the other is the Orb of Coreander, which should have gone to my... To Melusine, but it disappeared when she did.
