Story
Earth. In a distant future there's a city in the sky named Heaven by the men and women that built it. In days long gone this sky high piece of paradise was the jewel of a nation, the first of many of it's kind. Other countries made their versions of Heaven and it was just a matter of time until the skies of Earth were plagued by the pollution of this cities, those bellow cursed to be haunted by their shadow as they grew in number.

Meanwhile in the sky cities themselves time and the hand of man took it's toll. Some would fare better than others but Heaven was lost. A place for crime to thrive on either by the hands of criminal organizations or it's own corrupt government, both controlled by E.A.G.L.E. a ruthless military agency and now the true ruler. It became so powerful that it's influence soon spread across the other sky cities, now most of them under it's control and what's left of the Earth bellow has no option but to bend the knee.

Chapter Nineteen

"You're late." Doctor Sunday told them in a voice that was little more than a whisper. He was wearing white suit, some black shoes and a black tie.
Sunday seemed about as recovered one could be from the burn wounds that covered him when Oliver and Margaret last saw him. Little more than a day had passed by, yet the bandages around his throat was the only visible sign of his injuries.
"You look quite well." Oliver observed out loud. "I'm assuming you might have a few more bandages hiding under that suit and white gloves of yours."
Oliver had taken his sun glasses off and was tirelessly trying to spot something, anything that might prove useful from Sunday's body language.
A weak spot, a nervous twitch, anything.
Margaret for once felt distracted.
This room was like a sanctuary, a place worth of being a urban legend like other places and things E.A.G.L.E. might or might not have been responsible for.
It felt disappointing.
There was nothing special about the room.
It was white like all E.A.G.L.E. buildings, inside and out.
It was a big room and it felt somewhat odd in it's lack of furniture.
There was one unusual thing.
"What is the robot doing here?" Asked Oliver, voicing the question in Margaret's mind.
It was a white, human size android, white as the walls around them with a single red "eye". Standing in silence like a statue.
"An old project of mine," Sunday said leading them to the centre of the room.
The three of them were alone with the android, the room as mentioned had no furniture whatsoever.
The only door was the lift's and there were windows, wide and round, hermetically sealed or so it seemed.
Sunday stopped to recover his breath.
"For many generations there has been an highly advanced surveillance circuit operating in many of the floating cities. A technology evolved from the one used in the ships used to bring in the first colonizers. I took to myself the duty of assigning those with the experts to help me further increase it's capacities so we could monitor everything in the areas under our control. For protection, of course." Sunday added in a cynical tone.
"Right. Attacks from the natives and specially now a days, the criminals like pirates and mercenaries." Said Oliver. "Is that a surveillance drone then?"
Sunday coughed. "No. No, this is something far better."
It moved then, silent it's head moving just enough for it to see them better.
"Though today this space sector we are located has been much more explored, mapped and advanced enough space stations and lunar bases have been placed trough, making it easier to reach and travel across, the tremendous ships used when we first arrived here needed to carry the people in a..... disciplined fashion."
He coughed again.
"Something, efficient was needed. A computer was created, based on several other pre-existing models of A.I. designed to better run everything from plants to entire cities. This computer kept all the ships functional and assured they travelled together until a definitive destination was found.
It controlled everything inside them.
This. This android. It's connected to it.
To that very same computer. Which has been used for controlling and monitoring the colonies for hundreds of years now, in a efficient fashion.
Over time we evolved it.
This is the latest upgrade, made real.
Just one out of hundreds of prototypes, it will soon provide several bodies to the super computer,"
Sunday had to stop, the coughing getting to strong for him to talk.
"Interesting." Said Margaret in her coldest tone of indifference.
"I hope this means the surveillance systems will finally be good for something.
We have hundreds of hours worth of footage, yet we never caught anyone relevant from Monday's gang. Nor anyone else that mattered, actually."
She crossed her arms, both her fists clenching in impatience.
"Just tells us what we need, I'm tired of you." Tired of everything in this damn town, Margaret thought to herself.
E.A.G.L.E. agents rarely got time off, unless they were ordered to or found themselves seriously injured. Hunting criminals across the jungles and swamps bellow the sky cities sounded absurdly appeasing though, compared to the hours of inactivity she had been made to endure until now.
Oliver would usually chuckle or at least smile of how straight forward Margaret was but the android had something that made Oliver feel upset.
"She's got a point. Crime has been increasing, though E.A.G.L.E.'s efforts have been more than doubled."
"Quiet!" Sunday tried to shout in a raspy voice, causing more coughing.
This time, he coughed some blood which he quickly cleaned with the back of his hand, smearing the right glove with red.
"I'm still weak, from the skin grafts and transplants."
He swallowed dry and leaned on the android, shaking a bit.
"This is what I have for you. I know what their gang is after.
G.O.D. Unit Zero, holo display unidentified item 34/8."
The android stretched both its hands, the palms turned up and its red eye shone, projecting the 3D image of a metallic cube.
"This was stolen recently." Sunday added quickly, before they could talk.
"It was found in one of the first mining sites east of the globe. It's very old, yet very advanced.
My experts still have no idea what it does but I had the super computer examine it and rechecking the result before it was stolen from our vault, from which it was stolen soon after being deposited there.
Unit Zero, present this agents the summary of the latest news ."
The android turned the hologram off and once again it directed it's attention to both Oliver and Margaret.
"The item was moved to Vault Five accordingly to expedition order filled by employee 6987277, H. J. Osbert from R&D.
After being questioned, employee 6987277 denied knowing of such activities.
He was brought in for further interrogation four hours, thirty four minutes and thirty eight seconds ago by Corporal A. D. Meyer, Investigator number 34 from the Seventh Division's Department of Police and Security.
Further analysis confirm the subject it's telling the truth."
"So, how do you steal something from one of the vaults without being found out nor the item being noticed missing until it's too late?" Oliver asked to no one in particular.
"Corporal Meyer's report states that a poorly constructed replica had been placed."
the android replied in it's androgynous, metallic voice.
"Most probable solution..."
"Enough." Sunday interrupted.
"It was a inside job. The super computer isn't perfect and sometimes it can't prevent hacking of some data bases but it's our system.
The criminals we fail to catch are the ones we have more advantage to allow running loose or that work for us, direct or indirectly."
"The ones in town, you mean. Unless E.A.G.L.E. has been watching over the wild jungles and swamps and..." Margaret started.
"I have a poor sense of humour, agent." Sunday interrupted, yet again.
"I might be a simple man of science but I am a influential one.
I have been authorized to give you your orders.
This prototype, Unit Zero will accompany you. Everywhere.
It's a direct connection to whoever you have to contact, any time, any where.
The analyses to this item, confirm that whatever it is it generates a unique energy patter that Zero can easily track, accessing every single other camera and android units like Zero here and it will find the item's trace.
Find it and you find Monday and his gang."
"Very well." Oliver replied, after a short moment.
"However I have to ask, how do you know Monday stole this item and why he would want it.
For that matter, assuming he's responsible for the destruction of your lab might be a mistake. My someone else, not necessarily connected to Monday took advantage of the mess he's been making. A third part with inside agents."
Sunday quickly dismissed this ideas with a wave of his hands, doing his best to stand on his own and succeeding.
"We have a division to deal with inside agents.
We also will be more aware about hackers and cyber pirates.
Shortly after we started looking into this matter, the computer found some evidence of external meddling in different departments data.
How I know Monday did it?"
Margaret flinched by instinct reaching for her gun and drawing and aiming it in heartbeat while Sunday reached to something inside his coat.
"He left a invitation inside the fake cube."
He reached to Oliver with the small paper which he grabbed.
"Smile Patrol." Oliver read out loud, then turned the paper around in one hand while making Margaret lower her weapon with the other.
"There's a name in the back." Oliver added.
"An address?" Margaret asked.
He showed her his broadest smile.
"A trap. I hope you have dress, we are going out tonight."
