RIp Frank Kameny I'm betting most of you are too young to know who he is. hell, by all rights, I'm too young to know who he is, being born in the year of the stonewall riots, yet we all owe him a debt.
He was the WWII Veteran who fought the first gay rights case over being fired from a government job all the way to the supreme court. he lost, but it was an important start. He was one of those brave Mattachine founders who you may have seen in archive footage of the first gay rights demonstrations in Washington that's in pretty much every documentary about US LGBT Right, black and white footage of men in suits and a few well groomed women in classic 1950's skirts carrying signs. He was instrumental in getting homosexuality declassified as a mental illness. He fought for all our rights his whole life. I'm glad he lived to see DADT repealed, as that was an important cause to him as a veteran. I'm sorry he didn't live to see marriage equality.
