THIS PAGE IS WRITTEN PURELY FOR COMMON SENSE. IF YOU UNDERSTAND THESE TERMS OF COMMON COURTESY ALREADY, THEN YOU HAVE NO NEED TO READ THIS. I AM NOT TRYING TO ATTACK ANYONE. I SIMPLY WISH TO EXPLAIN MYSELF.
I'm not making this pretty and detailed in it's BBCode because you shouldn't need a ton of detail to read something important. I've noticed more and more that people's speech online has been degrading by the hour, with new unreadable slang and random, easily avoidable spelling errors than I can care to count. And it's absolutely pathetic. No one is in such a hurry at their computer screen they can't take a few minutes to read over their thoughts.
Now... I get a lot of people complaining to me, usually with sub par writing ability and/or common sense. Because they get upset with what I say, typically in the TSF and CB (Twilight Saga Forum and Chatterbox respectively). It's only common sense for the things I ask of people.
First of all... I'm a person, ok? I have my own faults too, and I realize most of them, so I don't openly flame people in anger, I understand mistakes. But so should you. If I make a mistake in spelling or sentence structure, I usually apologize for it and fix it. We spend 12+ years learning English... there's no excuse for chat speech. "lol" and emoticons are enough. These make sense, because apparently it's difficult to portray emotion across text. This sentence alone is weird to me. The very point of writing in the first place is to convey a thought, feeling, or idea. Have we lost so much over the years that we forget to read between the lines? I certainly hope not,because I haven't.
Secondly, when you post, you are making a literary statement. Proofread it.
Seriously.
If you have Firefox... it comes with spell check in its' forms. Anytime you misspell anything, it'll tell you. If you don't have it, then you have a little extra work to do. Now, quick posts like a yes or a no, or even just bumping in a contest, it's pretty redundant, but you understand what I'm trying to say? If you're speaking about a book, or a movie, or just trying to speak about something in detail, at least try to put some forethought and real information in it. Even this page was proofread first.
Big words are not a problem. Also, three syllable words aren't "big". If you don't understand a word, ask them what it means, or pick up a dictionary, hell, the internet is full of dictionary style sites. No need for a book at all. Having an articulate and detailed vocabulary is not a crime, or an issue. It's a problem when you use words you do not understand fully. Try looking up some words now and again if you don't understand them, it's a wonderful mental exercise, and it keeps our language beautiful.
The only reason I am saying all of this is because I'm tired of being viewed as a troll just because I love my language. I hate when people don't read their own words. A sign of foolishness is acting before you can think it through. Thank you. If you read this and it made you feel like you learned something, or you agree, please, leave a comment.
PS. Please please please stop telling me to have a three way with a thesaurus and a dictionary. It's rude, and well... the paper cuts would be unimaginable.
Quick reference:
it's = it is
its' = belongs to "it" or pertaining to "it"
your = something you own
you're = you are
whether =/= weather
which = connecting word
witch = spellcasting person

I agree with you. It is sad to see how often people mis-spell simple words, as if they don't really care. It's come with the internet, Instant Messaging, quick things like that. It's sad to see it, but people have come to terms with the fact that "it's the internet, it doesn't matter what you say". Which is a ridiculous fact, since every adult tells you that you have to be careful what you post on the internet, for you never know who will read it.
neutral It's just sad.
