In support of BOO and in honor of the Overseer today we will look at something no god of the sea would go without. Today's topic is the three point spear known as the trident.

In ancient times the trident was used for fishing and as a weapon. Gladiators would use it in conjunction with fishing nets.

In mythology the trident was associated with Poseidon (the Greek god of the sea), Neptune (the Roman god), and Shiva (the Indian god). Poseidon used his trident to create water sources Greece. He also used it to create the horse from sea form in a contest for the name of Athens. When angry he also used it to stir up tidal waves and sea storms. When he struck the earth it would create earthquakes. Neptune also used his trident to create storms and earthquakes. Shiva used it as a missile weapon that was used to destroy evil and restore order. The devil is also commonly seen holding a trident as his scepter.
