Chapter One-Wake the Dead

He was like an angel.
Well...and angel of death.
Standing in the middle of the street, crimson blood covering him in large splatters, a slight, devious smile on his porcelain face. The orange glow of the streetlights bathing him in their dim light, making his skin glow eerily.
It was honestly terrifying.
The street was empty, void of life. Except for him, but he's not really alive. Dead bodies, puddles of blood, and splashes of crimson littered the ground, covering everything.
No lights were on in the buildings, no cars running, no stray animals darting here and there. Everything was dead. This had been a...well, a massacre.
"What the ******** did you do?" I yelled, enraged, shocked and just slightly afraid. I'd never been afraid of him before.
He didn't answer, but his smirk grew into a full grin, his pointed caning fangs curling over his lower lip.
Yes, he had went crazy.
"You just...murdered....everyone..." I stated, attempting to put on a calm facade. Panic really got to him, tempted him, so I had to be extremely careful. He could snap on anyone, even me.
"I know!" He cried gleefully, clapping his hands together like an excited child on Christmas morning. It was a loud burst of sound, slicing through the dead silence and echoing through the blood-splashed darkness.
"What happened?" I asked in a (hopefully) sweet tone, like one might use to talk to a small puppy who just did something wrong. Not like one might use to speak to a 400-year-old vampire.
"They don't deserve this. This precious life, this freedom! So why should I let them live it? The definitely do not deserve it! And it got taken from me, so why not take it from them?!" The sick grin had faded, replaced by a deadly grimace, eyes such a pale, glittering green that they were nearly white.
I felt bad for him, really. He just massacred over a hundred people, but he was a pretty tortured soul...and he was important to me.
"Calm down, Jared. Relax." I said softly, taking a few tentative steps toward him.
"I'm perfectly calm, Estrella dear." He chuckled.
"No, you're high. On blood. One wrong move on my side, and you'd kill me in a heartbeat. So you're obviously wired. Definitely everything but calm." I kept my voice low and even, aiming for soothing, as I stepped even closer. There was very little distance between us now, and every pore in my body sensed the danger and willed me to run.
But I couldn't.
I was close enough now that if I reached out, I could touch him. He was watching me warily, eyes darting away from me, then back, every few moments.
"I'm okay, my dear Trey." He insisted. He sounded like a small child who had had too much sugar. "Do leave! Now go away! Come again another day!" After that, he burst into a fit of hysterical giggles. He sounded insane. And I believe he was.
"No. I've been taking care of you since I was a kid. Nine years, Jared. And I'm continuing to do that 'til you no longer need me to." I said stubbornly.
"I've never needed it, Trey!" He chuckled, bemused.
"I've helped you so much, how could you say that?" I growled, anger flashing in me.
"You've become a strong woman in the past nine years." He said fondly. His tone was different though- less excited, more soft, soothing.
"Th-thanks?" I stammered, unsure of where this was going.
"You'll fit in well with us, you know." He continued thoughtfully, voice low.
"Oh!" I gasped, realizing what he actually meant. "Uh, no, I'm perfectly fine just being me."
"I'm not giving you a choice in the matter." He said, his voice adopting a slightly menacing edge to it, as sharp as a razor blade.
"The Hell you're not!" I spat, jerking backwards. His hand shot out, grabbing my thin arm in an iron grip. I squealed in protest.
"You're such a fiesty child! You're perfect! Oh how did you not see this coming, Estrella?" His voice was like silk. He was speaking carefully and sweetly...it wasn't pleasant, though to others it would be, but I knew him. I knew that that tone of voice wasn't good. It was dangerous. I was in serious trouble.
"Let go!" I cried frantically, trying unsuccessfully to pull away. His grip tightened, and I yelped as his blade like fingernails pierced into the soft flesh on my arm.
"No use in fighting!" He crowed joyfully. He breathed in deeply, breaking into hysterical, maniacal laughter, and I realized with a jolt that he had drawn blood, and that blood was now running down my arms slowly, staining my skin with a muddy red color. And I knew, above all, that this situation had just gotten so, so much worse. Jared's eyes widened as he inhaled the scent of my blood. His pupils dilated.
"Yess." He purred, licking his lips. "Perfect."
"Shut up!" I yelled, trying to jerk my arm away again. His nails dug in deeper, drawing more blood, and he breathed in again.
"Let go!" I cried, going into full out panic mode. I didn't know what to do- Vampire Defense 101 is not a class they teacher in high school!
Suddenyl and very unexpectedly, Jared's posture changed. His dilated eyes widened and he stiffened, a low, animalistic growl rumbling in his throat His eyes went from wide and shocked to angry and narrowed. Thankfully, his grip on my arm weakened a bit as well...but no way I'd try to yank myself away just yet. I was perfectly okay pretending I was invisible until I was sure I was actually safe pulling out of his grasp with my whole arm still attached.
"Go away." He hissed suddenly, a disturbingly threatening noise.
"Ahahahahaa! You caught me!" A crisp, clear, jovial voice with a slight, almost British accent laughed gleefully, ringing out in the silent darkness.
"Yes, yes I did now get!" Jared replied to the so far bodiless voice.
"Oh! Oh, no, no, no!" The voice giggled. "I cannot do that with you tampering with our property here!"
"Property?" I scoffed, without thinking or even realizing I was saying anything.
"Long story, my pretty little bird. Now let her go, Jared!" Despite the friendliness, and almost likeability of this voice, I sensed an underlying danger, and Jared knew what it was by the way he remained tensed up.
"Why should I do that, Tristan?" Jared spat the name like it was days old coffee he'd accidentally taken a drink from.
"Like I said, she's our property!" The voice laughed, closer now than before, and I turned around as much as I could manage to, wincing in pain as Jared's hand twitched and his claws dug in.
A magnificent man stood behind me. He was incredibly tall and slim, as far as I could tell. He has long, neat, nearly white hair with starry-silver eyes and snow-pale skin. He had a dazzling white cloak draped around his body, held in place by a deep blue, sapphire brooch. He looked no older than 20.
My angry reply, that I had wanted to say so badly died on my tongue. So instead, I yelled "Who in Hell ARE you guys?"
