One wonders how it must be-
to be a black widow.
Slowly- with precision
she spins her wicked trap.
Like a true predator-
She lures her oblivious
feast into a game-
where losing is inevitable.
Its fragile body-
writhes and twists beneath her.
With venom deep inside its veins,
the insect becomes victim
to a ruthless murderer.
But what of her softer side?
In search of the perfect mate-
A moment leading to the birth of many.
For just one glimpse in time-
does she show what might be
love? No, for he is nothing to her-
but a fragment of a goal.
With a primal need to reproduce
millions of tiny babies,
she hasn't got any choice
but to mate with the male spider.
She plays a game in which trust-
is only the faint glint of a sharp-
enraged blade that could impale the heart
leaving its remains to her insane hunger.
