Sullen Girl Act 4.0
I searched every room. There were two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, a dinning room, and a living room. There was also a set of stairs to what I believed to be an attic, but I was too frightened to look. I noticed the house was covered by retractable shades.
“Looking for something?” Nick asked.
“Oh, no. I was just looking in each room. If I’m going to live here, I might as well get used to it.”
“I see. You’ve decided to stay. Wonderful.” He flashed a smile.
“Um, where is Dorian?”
“He…went to get a bite to eat,” He smiled as if it was an inside joke. “And went to see some friends.”
“Oh. So he won’t be back anytime soon. Right…Thanks.”
“By the way,” Nick stopped me as I began walking back to the bedroom. “About Dorian. He is your average ladies man. Don’t get too hurt. Man, I haven’t even seen him cry once, not even for the girls he especially likes!” I didn’t have any idea what he was talking about so I just smiled and said alright. Dorian didn’t seem that way. He just seemed…kind. But Nicks words made me picture a forty year old man sleeping with playboy bunnies. It didn’t fit in my head. I wanted all night for that ladies man. Some part of me couldn’t wait till he walked through that door. I think it was because he was the closest thing to sanity I could get. And even that was pretty bad. When I heard a motorcycle come up the driveway, my heart began racing. I told it to slow but it refused. He walked through the front kitchen door, soaked from the rain. There was the most sweetest scent coming off of his jacket. My whole mind was filled and I couldn’t think straight. What is this feeling? He came close to me and rested his cold hand against my cold cheek. He released me and walked toward Nick’s room.
What…just happened? As he touched me, butterflies swarmed through my veins. And I had this strangest urge just to feel every line of my body crushed to his. I wanted to hug him. And the feeling left me sort of sad after he left. I never wanted to feel that again…

“Um, where’s your bed?” I asked him that night.
“Your staring at it.”
“I thought that was my bed.”
“Well, you technically don’t have one. It’s alright you take the bed, I’ll take the couch.” He began to gather his pillows and a sheet.
“Thank you.” I said. I didn’t look at his face. I was afraid that bad feeling would come back. “I mean, without you, I wouldn’t have anywhere to go…” He laughed a little. I looked up to see him right next to me. His only free arm wrapped around me and brought me closer to him. I didn’t move. My whole body went numb and the feeling came back.
“No problem!” He smiled. He left the room bare except for a few pillows and a blanket. I locked the door quickly and screamed into the soft pillow. It was the bad feeling.

The night was hard to sleep through. I had to digest a few things. For one, I was a vampire. That was the hardest pill to swallow. I had no chance of going back to my old life. It was also hard to realize that I wouldn’t see Breanna. And finally, I had this thing for Dorian, and I didn’t know how strong that feeling was, but it was pulling me closer to insanity each time I saw his face. It was then I knew that that feeling was deep. I wanted to be his friend. I wanted to be as close to him as I was with Bre.

Dorian woke me up the next morning. I had to get the door because I locked it.
“This is for you.” He said and rubbed his eyes. It looked like he didn’t get much sleep either.
“What is it?” I mumbled, sleep still was in my body.
“Something from Breanna…” He murmured.
“Breanna?!” I cried, ripping the tiny letter out of his hand. I tried closing the door but Dorian caught it.
“I want to see too.” He sat on the bed next to me. My heart was racing. It was directly addressed to me with no return address. It just said Breanna on it. I opened it quickly, ripping at the paper.
It was a picture of the pier on the back it says “Miss you.” Dorian yawned.
“Told, you. How boring…She could have said hello or something…” He got up and walked to the kitchen.
“Where did you get this?”
“Dunno. Found it in the mail this morning…”
“Oh.” Was all I was able to say.
“Hungry?” He asked.
“Yea, what’s for breakfast?”
“How about an omelet?”
“I love omelets!” Dorian really was a good cook. His omelets were better than my fathers.
“The weathers been awful, huh?” I said, trying to make conversation just to hear his voice.
“Yea, it is.” He sat on the windowsill and smoked. “It’s gonna get clearer though. That’s why I hate summer.”
“You’re just like Amanda. She hates summer too.” I barely thought about Amanda. It kind of felt good to find new friends.
“Why do you bother with her? She’s a nothing.” He said. He stared off into the dark street, like he knew something.
“Well, she was the only one I had. Now, I don’t really care. I feel a lot better around you guys. I should feel afraid, but I don’t. It’s like we’ve met before.”
“We might have. I don’t remember faces too well, but I might have seen you.”
“So…” I looked around for a new topic. “Where were you yesterday?”
“Killing and sleeping around.” He put out his smoke and headed back for the table. He watched me eat, and I tried not to look surprised.
“Oh.”
“Yea. I hate it.”
“So why do you do it?”
“I kill so I can stay alive. You will too.”
“I mean the other thing…”
“It’s just who I am. You may not notice this just yet, but humans have this frailty. It’s beautiful. I was surprised when you became one of us. You never lost it. You’re still…the same…”
“Nothing can change me.”
“We’ll see. What do you feel like doing today?”
“Can I…” But I abruptly stopped. He waited. “Can I draw you?”
“Draw me?”
“I used to major in art…I want to draw you.”
“Sure. Where at?”
“How about the living room. Do you have a piece of paper and a pencil?”
“Yea, I’ll go get them.” We headed off in different directions.

“Hold still.” I said. He was so much prettier than I thought. His bone structure, his features, everything was so much more better than the human. Dorian fell asleep after a few minutes. So I decided to draw him sleeping. When it was done I woke him up.
“Oh, sorry…” He smiled apologetically. “Whoa! That’s really good, Sarah!”
“Thanks…”
“Tell me something.”
“Sure.”
“What was it like being human? I don’t remember so well.”
“Well,” I didn’t know where to begin. There were so many things to say. “It was alright. It’s not that bad. To have somewhere you can call home, to have something to live for, I guess it’s worth it. My family would shower me with love, like any other family. It was just…I didn’t have many friends. It wasn’t like I was dorky, I just didn’t want any. To me friends were nothing but a burden. Things that were mandatory became obligations. I hated that feeling. I hated to have to do something when I didn’t want to. But I did them, just to make life go on.
“Amanda wasn’t really a great friend. She would laugh and never seem to smile at me. But somehow, she was close to me. I didn’t want to lose her.”
“What about Breanna?” He leaned in from the couch he was sitting in. My heart started racing.
“Breanna was like my sister. She and I would do everything together. When she went to school, I was dragged along to. It was then that those obligations didn’t seem so bad. But that day came quicker than I thought. I knew that we couldn’t be together for eternity. But I still wanted to aim for that goal, even if it was inevitable. What’s happened to her?”
“Breanna used to live with me.”
“Was she like your girlfriend?”
“Something like that. I found her and took her home. But there was one thing I couldn’t recognize, but now I know what that was. Her eyes were always focused on something else. Like, she didn’t mind being with me, but there was something greater that she wanted. So eventually she told me about you. And you caught my attention since the moment I saw you. Breanna was really nothing more than a toy. I wished she would be greater than that, but she wasn’t. She wasn’t that kind of girl.”
“Why did she tell you about me?”
“She said you were the world to her. But she knew you had something inside you that not even she could break loose. I think I know what that is.”
“Do you, now?” I teased.
“I’ll do it, for Bre.” He said her name so commonly, like he had known her his whole life. It made me think she was still alive, still in touch.
“Now tell me something.” I smiled at him. This was my chance to finally ask.
“Anything.”
“What is it like to be a vampire?”
“You don’t feel it?” He asked.
“I feel fine, like I always have.” I shrugged.
“That’s strange. It’s a little different from being a human. For one, our diet is different…”
“That reminds me. When am I actually going to drink my first blood.”
“You already did.” He said, confused by my question, as if I had known.
“I did?”
“Yea. It was mine.”
“Why yours?!” I hadn’t realized what that glass was stained red from. That glass had been filled with blood. And I was the one who drank it.
“Well, it was to signify that we were together. Every vampire family does it. It’s so we stay together.”
“Oh.”
“You seem upset.”
“Maybe… I wanted to actually go out and stalk someone! Where’s the fun in just getting it? I want to work for it!”
“I just got a mental image of you as a lion!” We laughed at our idiocy. How ironic it was. Yesterday, I was running away from this place. Today, I’m loving every moment.
“Well, I better head to work. I’ll see you tonight.” It was then, it happened too fast.
He leaned forward, past my lips and pressed his against my cheek. I stood there, dead cold. If there was a heart beat in my body, it would have been jumping around erratically.
“Bye, sweetie.” He left the room in a flash and revved up his bike. Soon, the only sound in the house was my deep breathing.
