Romere followed the line of people, and Aikaze looked ahead, marveling. This man was so well-mannered, and lively too! He was even Reme's uncle. Aikaze was definatly looking foward to his stay, and hoped it would be a long on. In the three years or so she'd been thee, she'd never seen the man, and he was a refreshing change from the other known young men who tryed in vain to court her. The biggest change was his height. He stood a little under one and a half feet taller than her 5 feet, making him to be over 6 and a half feet. Thus, she could just barely grip his muscled upper arm, covered with a brown linen top, pants of the same color only a darker shade brown, and a long grey cotton cloak, very usefull on cold nights. He wore a thick leather belt as well, with a sheath for a longsword that was filled by a hardy frogspliter imdeed.
By "settled in", Pola obviously meant "earn your keep and cook while I hit you with a ladel." Aikaze had to admit that she wasn't surprised. pola was known to be very bossy at times, and knew very well how to get her way. She set Romere, Reme, and her husband, Jack, to cook the food while she and Aikaze sat in chairs and watched over them with hawk-like eyes and chatted. "He's really a very sweet man, my brother. He may be an idiot, and he may seem rougish, but he wouldn't hurt a fly. Well, maybe if it was a really annoying fly.....Or it was green...he hates green, see.....On flies, not eyes, dear...."
"Pola," Aikaze said, "quit while you're not too far behind."
Pola rolled her eyes. "Yes, Aikaze.....Romere, you idiot! Watch that pot! It's going to boil over!"
Pola jumped up and rushed over to her brother to give him a hearty thwack on the head, which he evaded by comically skipping away on one foot; Remer laughed, clapped, and pointed; Jack rushed after his wife with a blached face to keep her from hitting anything that need not be disrupted-or Aikaze, who was gigling untill she became victem to the wooden implement. She stood up, held out a stiff hand, and looked Pola in the eye. "Give me the ladel, and go take a nice walk. Now, Pola, now, before I get mean!'
Pola rolled her eyes again, handed over the ladel, and trotted to the kitchen door that exited onto the street. Aikaze herself put up the ladel as Romere clapped her lightly on the back. "Good timing. Had she gone longer, I may have been injured!'
Aikaze gave him the evily sly grin she usually reserved for men that got fresh with her. "Go back to cooking, else 'twill be my fan on your back!'
Chuckling, Jack went back to his own work, but Roimere looked hurt. "You wouldn't do that to a guest!"
Aiklaze grinned even more sinisterly."I've slapped many a bold man in the tavern just over there. Would you like to see my victems? I think the swelling on the latest one has stopped by now."
Romere hurridly went back to chopping leeks, and remer to picking up foodgarbage and disposing of it while Aikaze smiled at herself.
