lol.. another email i got, but from my sister
This is a poem. I was reading it.. and I just felt such total agreement with this. It would seem there are so many misconceptions about what christians are supposed to be.. and not all just by nonbelievers either. I run into a lot of christians who has this idea they have to be just this certain way. In the day and age we live in, perfectionism is a growing problem. While driving for excellence is a worthy notion, we are all still human. And, in our humanity, we must remember that to think anything we could ever do or make could be entirely perfect is ridiculous and like trying to chase a flea circus.. you probably won't find it becuase perfectionism on this earth no longer exists. however, this poem is a friendly reminder of though we may be christians, we are still just humans.

Quote:
"I AM A CHRISTIAN"
by Maya Angelou

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting "I'm clean living."
I'm whispering "I was lost,"
Now I'm found and forgiven.

When I say..."I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble
and need CHRIST to be my guide.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak
and need HIS strength to carry on.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed
and need God to clean my mess.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible
but, God believes I am worth it.

When I say.. "I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain,
I have my share of heartaches
So I call upon His name.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not holier than thou,
I'm just a simple sinner
who received God's good grace, somehow.

Share this with somebody who already has this understanding, as reinforcement. But more importantly, share this with those who do not have a clear understanding of what it means to be a Christian, so that the myth that Christians think they are "perfect" or "better than others" can be dispelled

I also would like to add that I don't usually send on FWD's. Generally I delete them. It's taken me forever to get most of my family to stop sending them though my dad likes to send them.. and my sister only sends really good ones cuz she knows i usually trash them.

Maya Angelou was Christian? Cool. I had to read some of her stuff for Lit class, but none of it made it clear that she was Christian.
