TG webcomics, manga, and anime always establish a main romantic interest for the TGed character, male or female. The fans inevitably argue over whether they like this person or not, and perhaps what other character they'd rather see as the love interest.

Personally (I've said it before, I know) I prefer when the mtf TGed character falls for a guy; she becomes hetereosexual for her sex. In a lot of stuff I've read and/or seen, the author seems to prefer keeping the character's old sense of attraction (making the character homosexual for her new sex). Misfile, Ranma 1/2, and I think Sparkling Generation Valkyrie Yuuki are examples of this (I know most of the people on SGVY's forums seem to love Chiaki and hate Taki).

What do you prefer?

I prefer Heterosexual.

This is an interesting thing for me

I think if the character had previous romantic relationships/crush that they should still be attracted to that person. Unless that attraction is purely hormonal IE just because someone looks hot.

I Agree with a more Circumstantial Bisexual character. simply put. true love shouldn't be interrupted by a mear change in body. however this leaves the character open to try new things

I like for them to slowly change their orientation. Still liking the same as their new gender, but not wanting to act on it. Then they slowly accept that they must begin liking the attention from those of their old gender since they are not going to persue their new gender. confused

Does that sound too confusing?

i dislike it when they have the same attraction, but for ranma itis understandable, he changes back and forth etc,
but in kasimasi where he still likes the girl after he is a girl, it really annoys me

just my two sence

Well what is a guy was turned into a girl, and he/she fell for a girl that was originally a guy hypnotized into thinking he was a sandwich. Would the sandwich/guy/girl and the girl/guy/platypus be legally able to marry under Alabama/Ukraine/Empire of Zor law?

Man, that confused me...

Actually, that was one of the things I liked the most about Kashimashi.

Then again, I like shojo-ai and shonen-ai even when it doesn't involve gender swapping, so I'm not the best one to talk about that. >_<

For me, it really depends on the tone of the series.
But seeing as I love shojo-ai anyways, and shonen-ai too, I tend to lean towards those kinds of pairings.

I voted 'homosexual' but that doesn't really say it right. I tend to view someone's gender as how they identify rather than what they present as, so when a boy is turned into a girl, but still thinks of himself as a boy... I think of the character as a boy, and if he still likes girls that's hetero (until/unless he starts thinking of himself as a she.) Like, Ash from Misfile is still a straight guy to me but Hazumu is a lesbian girl. I know some people have different standards on that, though.

But what's really important to me isn't so much which gender they fall for as how it's played out, and whether that meshes with the 'theme' of the transformation and the character's development.

(Oh btw, hi I'm new, yes I posted in the newbie thread...)

Welcome.

I have to disagree with you on my choice of terminology. Strictly speaking, sex pertains to physiological differences (genitalia and whatnot). Gender has to do with psychological and behavioral characteristics typically associated with one of the two sexes (masculine or feminine).

With that in mind, if a man physically became a woman but still found other women sexually attractive, I would call that individual homosexual.

I understand your reasoning, I just dispute your semantics.
