You can do anything to the dot as long as you describe what you're doing...

I took the dot . flattened it _ cut it in half-- rolled both halves out _ _ cut them in half -- -- rolled two of those out more _ _ -- curved the longer ones )(-- added a rose bud and now I give it to you!

(yeah it's pretty convoluted and drawn out, but you didn't say it had to be short)
