and find there was a little more than a casual reference to Jesus when Harry sacrificed himself and come back from the dead?

I never noticed any messiah-like qualities to it... but then I usually remain oblivious to such things and just enjoy the book XD

So does Star Wars and The Matrix. Any good hero story does.

Moved to Main forum instead of Q&A. (I really should make a better title for that subforum xP)

Anyways, I haven't read the Harry Potter book but I wouldn't be surprised. It'd be an easy reference to make that lots of people would catch. And I would say Harry Potter is aiming at a much broader audience for popularity than Atlas shrugged xD

The concept of a messianic resurrection isn't anything new. Heroes die and come back to life in films and books all the time. Remember Gandalf? And wouldn't you think Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, and Anakin all fit the bill by becoming one with the Force?

So the moral of the story is, if we sacrifice ourselves to save others, we'll come back to life? bullshit.

I think it's a combination of "sometimes you have to go through a lot of s**t to do the right thing" and keeping the fans from going "HOMFGZ HE DEAD -angrymob-"

From what I understand, Harry didn't come back to life, but evaded death altogether, and was just in a near-death state. Besides, I'm for heroes reviving from death if there's a very long-in-coming and complicated explanation intertwined with the plot.

There's been stories of death and resurrection since way before Ye Olde Ye Jesusy times. I didn't even think of it when I read it. I was too busy sobbing because Snape died and the book was over. crying
One thing that I've found interesting throughout the series is the Snakes = Evil thing. That is a very Christian thing, seeing as how Snakes have been seen as bad ever since the story of Garden of Eden. sad I like snakes. They have soft, silky bellies. Why they gotta be evil?

Yeah Cirosan, but Harry needed to go to Voldemort thinking he was going to die, and not defend himself. You remember the part where Dumbledore said that was the key part in making Voldemort destroy the seventh Horcrux? It was Harry willingly going to his death and not doing anything about it.
