The Introduction So welcome to my little corner of the quester's guild. After half a century of debating and procrastinating, I finally saw fit to get things in a halfway working order. Better late than never, amirite? biggrin
In all honesty, this idea's been kicking around for some time now (since shortly after the opening of the main thread, anyways), and this should have been up a lot earlier. But I'm lazy, busy, and indecisive- a deadly (to creating quest threads, anyways) combo.
The things you see here still need to be fleshed out, I know. But I figured I should get SOMETHING up to work with...The Info Box! CURRENT STATUS: Working on things... -Need to make sure I'm happy with the Elements list -Need to maybe add more to physical description -Need to settle on ONE myth [DONE]FUNDS: 20k/20k - FS price MET!

The Man Basics:
Name: Sasha Rubinsky Age: 38 Blood Type: O Ethnicity: Russian From (currently living): USA
Physical:
Height: 5'10 Weight: ??? Hair: Brown Eyes: Green Basic appearance: Sasha has a fairly average build, not being all that toned or muscular. In fact, he's probably a bit skinny from not getting as much food or sleep as he needs (being a doctor means you're always busy- and more oft than not Sasha puts his patients before his own needs). Also evident of his lack of rest are the dark circles under his eyes. He wears his hair cut fairly short as well, and his age shows somewhat in his locks- he has a slight graying. Probably he's a bit more gray than someone his age (or probably not- he is 38, you know)- but due to having a stressful life and line of work, well...it's taken a toll on him. One might also notice slight creases by the mouth and at the corner of his eyes. He doesn't seem to mind much, though. After all, he's a doctor, not a beauty queen.
Clothing: Sasha's work outfit generally consists of his long, white doctor's coat, nametag clipped on the right side.
Underneath the coat he dresses fairly basically. He wears a pair of khaki pants and rather plain sneakers (though admittedly, they have a pretty good grip- this is necessary to avoid slipping and falling while working). What he wears as a top varies, though, from long sleeved sweaters to plain t-shirts. Though through it all he seems to favor the plainer, darker-colored shirts.
As far as street clothes go, they resemble closely what he wears to work, though perhaps a little more casual, and without the doctor's coat.
Personality: During work hours, Sasha has a tendency to enter into a more serious mode, one that his friends jokingly refer to as 'doctor mode'. Naturally, being a cardiologist means you have to be serious while in surgery or looking for a diagnosis- it's part of being a doctor. However, Sasha isn't perpetually serious. He also has a fairly warm bedside manner, though at times he can come off as a little formal.
He's often been described by his coworkers as being reliable in a pinch, able to roll with the punches. And when he's not in 'doctor mode', he can be a fairly easy going guy, if not somewhat quiet and bookish.
Sasha also has the tendency to come off as being a little distant or aloof. It can be difficult for people to get close to him. Part of the distance comes by habit. As a doctor, becoming to close or emotionally involved with a patient can hinder judgment and become a hassle if things take a poor turn. This habit, however, has spilled into his personal life. Perhaps, another reason that he doesn't form deep attachment comes from the fact he got bounced around a lot in his younger life.
He does, deep down, crave stability and dependency. After losing his home at 17 and then moving to the States at 18, he's been left wanting more consistency in his life. His job HAS been able to offer some stability in a tumultuous life. Perhaps this is why he's so tenacious when it comes to saving lives, so devoted to working, and why he sometimes works more than he should, forsaking rest in the name of getting work done. And perhaps his tunneled devotion to his job can also be seen as a reason he doesn't form many friendships or relationships- he's simply too busy with work to fully give people the time they need.
Background: Sasha was born in Russia, moving to Pripyat in the Ukraine at the age of 8, after the construction of Reactor no. 2 of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant was established. His father became a worker at the plant, and his mother settled down as a local teacher. Growing up, he had a fairly average life. He attended school, taking an interest in the biological sciences- especially the field of medicine. He did well in his studies, being a fairly bookish child.
However, once he turned 17, his life was rather violently uprooted. That was the year that the Chernobyl Power Plant's reactor 4 had a major meltdown. Several thousands of people were uprooted from their homes, Sasha's family being no exception. He was forced, like so many, to drop everything, to leave nearly all possessions behind (they could take but one suitcase with them), and get out of the Zone of Alienation due to the high levels of radiation that had been released.
Luckily, Sasha and his family were able to find housing with his grandmother, who lived well outside the Exclusion Zone, though all the way back in Russia. Starting over was very difficult, and for the following year, the family struggled with money issues, with finding job placement, with trying to rebuild their life from scratch.
He attended the area high school, struggling to try and make graduation. The summer after he graduated, he was faced with some choices- he could either move again to attend medical school (as there were no academies in the area), or he could stay where he was an go after a different major. Sasha was fixated on the idea of becoming a doctor, however. He wasn't willing to give up his dream, but he was apprehensive of leaving his family once again. He was only 18, after all, and he had been through a lot in the past year.
However, his parents came up with an idea for him. They proposed to him the idea of him going to live with his Aunt over in the States. His parents advocated that it would be a great opportunity for him to expirience another culture, to get a great opportunity for education, and to get started on a life of his own.
Sasha brooded on the idea a lot. This was a whole new country, across the ocean on a new continent. He did take English as a second language during highschool, and his aunt was willing to help him where she could...and this was the chance of a lifetime. But he was scared to leave his parents. In the end, he accepted his aunt's offer, enrolling in medical school in the States. He lived with her for a few years until he was able to secure a job and get a place of his own. To keep in touch with his parents, he called, wrote frequent letters, and even planned a trip back home to visit.
By the time Sasha turned 26, he had received a degree in medicine, and by the time he was 28, he received a specialization in cardiology. He worked at a local hospital for the last ten years, reveling in the stability he was finally awarded.
Recent Events:
Most recently, Sasha had taken a trip back to Russia, back the the Zone of Alienation. Going into the zone itself wasn't a problem- often tours are offered for certain areas. But to get into certain zones or go alone, he needed a government issue permit. He obtained one by declaring he was going to give exams to those living in the Zone, and through the help of his parents pulling a few strings with some of their more...influential friends wink
While exploring, armed only with a Geiger Counter to alert him of the more dangerous areas, he went inside of a building. Not all of the buildings are dangerous to enter, after all- one just must be careful of what buildings they enter and be wary of decay.
As he examined what was left of the looted buildings, he came across a smalled stuffed lion. The toy looked old and worn, and it reminded him oddly of the stuffed lion he had carried around as a child. He had been forced to leave it when his family was evacuated (they didn't have time to look for where he had lost it that day). He felt an oddly strong attraction to the toy, despite the fact the only significance it had was nostalgia. What he didn't know was the small stuffed toy was a pukka. He stuffed it in his pocket and went one with his day, eventually taking the artifact home...

The Monsters As of now, I managed to narrow things down to once choice~ Still not sure if it fits the 'hybrid' or 'werefolk' category, though...
Black Dog: Originally, my idea was the ever-vague weredog. Naturally, such a shaky idea seemed bland.
However, I'm not going for straight-up weredog anymore. It's too...vague. So I was thinking of going for something more along the lines of a Black Dog or Spectral Dog. But even Black Dog sounds vague. After all, there's Black Shuck, Barghests, Booger Dogs, Cu Sith...some are malicious and are said to cause death, others are impassive, impish, or even helpful...so let's narrow it down a bit more.
There's said to be these dogs that roam the roads of Sweet Hollow Road on Long Island, NY (thank you, Raur, for the suggestion). They are said to walk on their hind legs and have glowing red eyes. Locking eyes with them is said to cause death within a month. Spooky. That's the sort of Black Dog that intrigues me the most, because the bipedal stance would allow Sash to retain some humanity while at the same time give fodder for monstrous changes...
In the end, I suppose you could identify the monster as simply a Black Dog (because despite inspiration, I do like a bit of vagueness to work with x3) but those dogs in particular are the dogs I'd be patterning him off of- mostly for the sake of hind-leg walking. Come on- it gives him a bit more charm than a werewolf (gotta love the floppy ears of a doggy :B), but still keeps the 'ooh' factor of an upright walking canine (like I said...honestly, as neat as quadraped would be, I like the fact that hind-leg walking would retain some semblance of humanity- you know he'd be loathed to loose it totally anyways).
Why the Weredog?
This was one of my earliest ideas. I did love the idea of the werewolf at first, but since there was already people queued up to quest for it, I decided to do something different. Something more...unique. WEREOLWVE ARE OVERRATED, K? >:k
So I settled on weredog. A Black Dog, to be more exact. Plus, don't you think it would be ironic for Sasha to go from someone who saved lives every day to something that is reputed for causing death to anyone it meets? Plus, I thought the canine instincts would be interesting to play out. >.>
Drawbacks?
Not many, honestly. As I've had time to sit and think... there are few things I worry about now. I'm not sure I'm so fond of the animal instincts being so overwhelming- I worry if I'll be able to play them out well enough and keep in check with Sasha's personality. But that's only a minor concern. Honestly? I'm rather fond of this idea :3
Any crits would be handy~

*waves!* looks pretty good so far! here is an idea for yah, rather than a 'Weredog' you could try something like the 'Black Shuck' which is a spectral black dog with large glowing eyes, and is reported to vary in size from just a large dog to as big as a horse, and likes to scare unwary travelers, but mostly leaves them alone. There is also reported to be a ghostly black dog that haunts Sweet Hollow Road on Long Island, NY, and is said to have red glowing eyes and walks on it's hind legs. or look up the Cynocephali, which are supposed to be people with the head of a dog, or even the scottish Wulver, which is supposed to be a man, covered with short brown hair but with a wolf's head, and kept to itself and was not aggressive if left in peace. apparently liked to spend most of his time fishing

Dang, those are really good ideas. Like I said, weredog was my first and sort of impulsive idea.
I'll have to look more into those dog-headed creatures :0 -goes to prowl wikipedia and the likes- Nnn, thanks for the ideas, Raur!
