Okay, so here's the deal. Most of this is me just feeling sorry for myself and ranting, but I had to let it out somehow or someone would be dead...
Not long ago, around the last week of May to the first week of June or so, while I was listening to my Michael Crawford CD and talking to my friends, I think of something. 'I wonder where the Phantom tour's going to be...' Because, since our move from Louisiana to Oregon, which in Portland I have heard several times over from the parentals will have Broadway shows coming through, due to it's size. So, suddenly excited at the prospect of being able to go, I asked some of my Phantom friends if they knew the US tour site. They gave it, and though it wasn't coming to Oregon, I was happy to find that it was coming to a place in Canada, where my grandparents live. You couldn't imagine how happy I was, the plan was so perfect! I would fly to their house to stay for a week, and we'd go and see Phantom! Wonderful!
Until I told my dad, who immediately burst my bubble. On the date that I should be going to Phantom, we were going to be in Canada, but not where I wanted to be. We were going to be at a family reunion, filled with people I have never met nor heard of nor cared to meet! Plus, apparently I couldn't fly alone because I'm under 18. But, you can fly if you're underaged, you just have to be under the care of a special flight attendant who takes care of others like you. Of course, when I told my parents that, the subject was dropped, an obvious no way in hell. So, once again, Phantom has slipped through my fingers like water. D:
I just needed to rant a bit.

Yeah, parents sometimes. rolleyes My mom took away my Phantom dvd for a month because she thought I was becoming "a little too obsessive". Luckily, she didn't get my i-pod.

All the same, I suggest you make the best of it. Read the original novel, watch Phantom movies, go exploring and what have you. Life often doesn't turn out the way we'd have hoped, and the one way to fight that is to find something else that you do enjoy.
In a way, I can relate, as the musical is coming to my city sometime soon. I'm really not able to go, however, as both myself and my family are in a less than ideal monetary situation, and there are obligations that take higher priority than overpriced entertainment.
Just know that there will be other opportunities to see it in the future which you will likely be able to take full advantage of. And anyway, the musical is hardly the best overall version. As I said, and as I will say again, this--and all other Broadway musicals, for that matter--are overpriced entertanment. When you can't go, you simply cannot go.

That isn't the worst thing in the world. Check BroadwayacrossAmerica.com, they should have the 2007-08 schedule for Phantom and other musicals. Just be patient and wait for it to come closer.

.....Phantom's coming to Portland next year.... It is coming closer. It's 100 miles away, but we've driven 400-500 one time. Yay.

My mom's like that. Last summer we went to Japan to visit my grandparents and I begged her to let me go see the Tokyo production. She just said, "Why would you want to see the Japanese version? Japanese actors are Le Suck." I thought, "How can you say that?! You're Japanese..." But I'm going to Japan again this winter, and this time I have my own money, so she can't stop me. Muahaha.

Well parents are like that, it can't be helped. They show their care by means which may hurt you, so yeah. I feel like a hypocrite when I said that sweatdrop
That's not the worst that could happen. The worse could be that you are no where near the U.S. or near any city that has broadways. *sigh*

Ugh, my parents are like that too. My dad won't take me to theater, but my aunt said she would this spring. But then my mom said I couldn't go because she didn't want me to stay with my aunt! crying (They don't get along very well.)

My parents prevented me from seeing Phantom in Canada also. I live in Michigan, not too far from Canada, but still a long drive. Now, my parents and I have a deal. As long as I keep my GPA up to a 3.0, they will take me to one boradway musical per year I live with them. Now, I begged to go see phantom,a nd we almost did, untill the day we were buying tickets for...We were going to Maryland.

I feel ya there. The only place I know nearest here that plays PotO frequently is the next state over. But with gas prices these days? Like I'm driving that distance. I'd spend as much money on the gas as I would a balcony ticket. Plus, I'm poor as dirt, too. Need a job. ._.

Maybe your parents dont have the means to buy you a plane ticket and a ticket to the show? I mean, it is asking a little much just to see a play... Maybe you should plan something with your parents or your friends? Take a big trip up to the theatre next time its playing, and get a job so its your own money (Your parents will instantly like the idea more) The key: Organize and plan months, and months in advance.
