We're going to make a subforum for writing, with a focus on critiquing SHORT pieces, including but not limited to actual RP posts. The subforum will allow exercises, contests, and any thing else that helps people improve their writing. You can also post stories involving your characters, just to have a place to show them off.

But there are a couple of things that we need before we can create it. All of our mods are busy right now with their own projects and cannot dedicate the time that it would take to write the sticky for this new subforum by ourselves. I know that there are some writers out there, and that you want this subforum. xd

So what I need from you guys are resources for writing, advice for writing, and any thing else that you think that the subforum would need in a sticky (or 2). How would the sticky need to look to explain to people what we want there and what is allowed? How would this subforum be different than the Questions subforum? Would some of the stuff in there fit better in this new forum? If so, give us the links to what would need to be moved.

Appreciate any help! PEACE OUT

Hey man! Look at me rockin' out,
I'm on the radiooooooo.
Hey man! Look at me rockin' out,
I'm on the videooooooo

Well, being a ametuer writer myself, I have a view pieces of advice (also please exuse any spelling mistakes, my spellchecker died. R.I.P poor little spell checker)

First piece of advice: Make sure you show every little detail. From an odd bump on a tree, to the different colourings on a little bug

Second piece of advice: SHOW NOT TELL; If your character is nervous, show that he/she is nervous by saying that he/she is sweating or shaking. Don't just say he/she is nervous

Third and final piece of advice: Don't be afraid to write what you want. If everyone else you know is writting about someone who goes off into a foreign country and saves the world, don't write that because everyone else is, write your own writting. ^-^

Hope my advice is usefull

They take me away from,

Sweet Danny and Lisa,
They take me away from...AHHH.

Wow, ether, thank you so much!
Wolven, thanks as well. We need both links and just plainly written advice, because some people don't click links but those who do should not be disappointed. xd

PS. you could get a firefox browser. The newest version has a built in spell-checker, although I believe that you have to turn it on.

A little more advice.

Don't use Cliche's. Avoid them like the plauge. Example of Cliche: When a character dies, another character screams : "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!" Avoid using Cliches ^-^

Also, if you're reading a book, and like something the author put as a plot or character or whatever, write that down, change it alittle so your not stealing it, then use it in your own writting. My english teacher told me that authors write what they read. That is a perfect example of that.

I am a bit of a writer myself, but I read a whole lot more. I`ve seen what other people have written before me, and I agree with all of it, especially the rule about no cliches. I hate it when people do that. What`s the point? My advice is about characters. *ahem*
In my experience, a good character is not too complicated (as far as abilities, physical features, &c) or extreme. For instance, I have a friend who is (let me see if I can get this right) a cyborg/werewolf/werelion/pirate/hydro-something/medeival warrior. *takes breath* That, from my perspective, is just a little too over-the-top. I can understand two or three cross-races, but there comes a point where one must draw the line.
Also, on another forum I saw a post about flaws in a character. Flaws can be good, they can help define the true nature of your character, and they make for some interesting challenges when interacting with other RPers.
A good piece of advice is to start with one basic character; simple, no more than two cross-races (And make sure you know enough about the races you choose! Don`t decide to become a Vampire without knowing whether or not they actually eat people or if they just drink blood. lol), and a few basic abilities and weapons. Don`t obverload when you first start out. It gets overwhelming. xD Companions, such as a Dragon or a Wolf pup, can be helpful, depending on what kind of RP you do. They can help you in a fight or help you befriend other players, depending on their nature. Just have fun with it.

*clap clap clap clap* I agree with everythign you've put here. For example, A character I created recently, is human with water elemental blood, and nymph blood. this only changes his appearance slightly, making it easier to work with. He also has a firebird as a pet, not a pheonix, but something close, without the healing powers, so I dont' over power my character.

Thank you guys! Right now we don't have the time to find all these resources ourselves. 5,000 heads are better than one any way, right? So any thing you post brings us one step closer to opening the subforum. sweatdrop babysteps
