What are some of the most funny/horrifying/awesome things that've happened to you or someone you know while performing?
Or just practicing if you want.
I can't think of anything I've done, but I remember a few years ago at the end of the year concert this kid broke the cymbals and they fell with this huge crash onto his feet.
xD
I was standing next to him and it was at the very end of the show.
Also, a couple of our guard girls lost their hair pieces at one of the NESBA competitions this year. At least it wasn't the finals(Which they won!), but they also did it when they were performing at the last band concert, and the girl just stopped because she figured it wasn't worth it to keep performing.xD

So yeah, I wanna hear your stories.

*The marimba broken second competition of the season.
*First competition, the two guard members setting flags forgot to set one for the third song. So I'm just air-flagging in. Like air guitat. But air flag.
*Our (now) co-captain chipped her tooth last year and almost quit.

Well one day we were having marching pratice and a lot of new kids trying out to be bass for next year. Well one kids apperiantly has really sweaty hands and the bass stick flew out of his hands and hit the drum major in the head. It was pretty hillarious.

Oh... Haha. LOTS! Um... Here';s a list of some.
1. My friend nick dropped his music from his bassdrum and when he leaned down to get it he fell forward and rolled on the drum and hit his head.
2. Our band directors assistant (We call him Mr. Dumb@ss) Tried to teach us how to crab when we already knew how.
3. One of the drummajors was running on for a game in the rain and slipped when they cut a corner.
4. Our band director forgot to let us harness down while everyone else was at rest so we had to sit in attention for 2 hours while he was away. (My band is very rulefollowing...)
5. Every game the cheerleaders get in our way and we pin them to the fence infront of the bleachers with out drums.. xD

of course ... that was the band i got to host... so who do you think had to look for the ambulance that was already on it's way to another call...

At Semifinals last year, it was really windy and snowing. The gong fell over 2-3 times. It was really scary, considering that one performance alone determined if we made Finals or not. Thankfully, we made it.

On my very very very first day of band camp in ninth grade...I did a crank toss with my flag and caught it with my face.
I started school with a black eye.

During one of our half time shows, the only other cymbal player popped his cymbal on the first crash. xd

Guard Mishaps:
It's common to be hit by a stay flag or rifle during practices.
During one of my last Field competitions I had injured my knee a few weeks before and on the last move it nearly gave out on my landing so it looked like I was unstable which cost us about 1 point.
One competition the costumes were made so poorly that one of the girls tops fell forward and down. (thank God for Body tights. Though she did look nude from far away)
While setting for competition a team mate threw her rifle to someone near me so they would set it, missed and hit my knee.
Stray string from flag material caught a team mates glasses and sent them flying.
For some reason our band people had the habit of thrusting their instrament (sp?) forward when they got scared of the Guard getting to close. (when actually we were scared to DEATH to hit any of them because it would cost more if we injured them than any one of us. gonk )
Performing in the rain is really HARD. The silks get heavy and slipping on the grass is almost impossible to prevent.
Being forced to go inbetween or under flutes or trumbones ism scary as ******** but I miss it so much. All the scary moments and OMG WTF just happened moments were worth it.

Last story: One Winterguard we were so late that we got stuck in rush hour traffic. We were boxed in with big rigs all around us. When the coaches yelled "LADIES and Chris! We're running late so you need to change NOW!" At this point me and my best friend on the team are laughing because no one listened to us when we said "Maybe we should put on tights just in case." So while girls are going ast fast as they can, Chris is freaking (being the only guy and not being gay) Finally after everyone changes (in front off all these guys in big rigs) we get to the school. Our Coach yess "Unload your equipment and check in NOW!" So we're running with our stuff and back drops. We get to the performance door just in time for them to call our school name, we go in and preform. No practice, no warm up and no stretching. Straight off the buss and racing to the door.

I hit my saxaphone friend once in practice because I was going between him and another member and he wasn't in his right spot, and I tried not to get him, but I failed. He was okay, though, and he never got in my way again.

It was lightly raining one time before a performance, and all us in guard were practicing outside, and so the flags were heavy and slippery. We managed to almost get through our beforehand practice when my friend hit herself in the face with a toss. We went on a few minutes later, and after the performance you could clearly see she had a black eye. She wore her hair in front of her face for a week.

Its A Capella for Me
On my very very very first day of band camp in ninth grade...I did a crank toss with my flag and caught it with my face.

Aw. That's like what happened to me. I'm not sure if it's the same move and you call it a crank toss and I call it a power pass, but I threw my flag up real high so it spun the normal 2 1/2 times, but, like you, I caught it with my face. I was in my alley behind my house in the middle of July. I didn't have a bruise, but it hurt real bad.

Oh, and during a show, my friend tripped over her uniform and faceplanted into the astro turf. And one time, we thought it funny for basketball season to do a routine to Helena by My Chemical Romance. Guess who I got to be... No, I wasn't Gerard, Kylie was. I got to be Mikey. Except he's 5' 10" and I'm 5' 1". But it was still fun to try and pin my hair up. The girl we dressed up as the lady in the ballet dress like, tripped on it doing the dance and fell on her face. It was hilarious. We had put so much lipstick on her that it was smeared all over the court where she fell. Hilarious.

The first time and only time I've ever been hit by a guard flag (and thank goodness it wasn't during a show!)

I'm a trumpet player; back in high school, my senior year, I had a solo set where I played said solo while I was surrounded by a moving circle of six colorguard girls. Granted, they were four steps out of my reach every time, but one practice, I got nailed in the side of my head with a guard flag. Turns out that the one that did it wasn't having a very good day that day in terms of luck. It hurt like hell (because of the high tempo during the solo), but I'm glad that it wasn't from the back (which would've caused my mouthpiece to go through my teeth. not a fun experience, I'd imagine).

Once during a winterguard practice, I did a horizontal toss, caught the flag bad, and one end smashed into my mouth so hard that my tooth went crooked. That also happened to be the day of one of our concerts so I had to go play my alto sax with a lip swollen three times it's normal size, and my teeth almost falling out. I also did almost the exact same thing, just with a saber and I hit myself in the temple instead of the mouth. Worst headache I have ever had in my whole life.

There was this one time, one guard member did...some toss I don't remember which, and it went sort of backwards and she literally fell on her back trying to catch it. After that, it took like half an hour to get her to stop laughing enought that she could even stand up.

Aha I just remember another one. My friend and I were working on making up the routines for this year and she put her flag on the ground, and walked around it, stepped on the silk and slipped and landed right on her face. ^_^

And once, during one halftime, our captian had to do splits during one song. After halftime she comes up to the guard and asks if anyone saw her when she was doing her splits cuz she says she felt a breeze and thinks her pants fell down but wasn't sure if anyone saw it. ^_^
