Was it just circumstancial that he got ahold of a decent killing device (the Deathnote, of course xd ), or was it in him to become a killer eventually with anything anyway?
What do you think?

not unless he could definitely and above all doubts keep it anonymous. He always seemed to be against Kira in the open

x_Jamais vu_x not unless he could definitely and above all doubts keep it anonymous. He always seemed to be against Kira in the open I think the same way too. First he'd maybe do the dirty jobs by himself, but finally get helpers like Misa, Mikami and Takada were.

no he wouldn't without the power of the death note..
in great circumstances considering that his father's a chief of the police, he would not unlikely to be a criminal..

I don't think he would have ever even considered killing someone if he hadn't gotten the Death Note. With the Death Note he can kill a whole bunch of people at a time without leaving any evidence. He would probably just live a normal life as a detective or whatever if he didn't find the Death Note, and he would probably be a lot happier.

Hmmm...very interesting. You all seem to be of one mind.
I think that must be right...seeing as he got the Death note and all. But for me there still is that lingering disgust he harbors for "sinful" humans and the insatiable thirst for power...to be a god. I think that might have, just might have made him crack somewhere along the line in later years.
But I may be wrong! 3nodding

I think he could've. Near mentions that any sane person would've used it a little then get scared and get rid of it, and that he was just a killer.
So technically, he did become a killer.

He planned on being the head of the NPA. I highly doubt that, without the DN, Light would have even considered killing criminals. Sure, he would have been disgusted with the world, but as head of the NPA he would have thought 'Eh. At least I'm doing something.'
Hinted spoilers for manga volume seven: Light was all about justice before that pretty little black notebook fell into his lap. Then he kinda went crazy, which you can see clearly in manga... seven, I think it is. The second he gets the Note back his expression becomes evil. I'm not talking about Carrot Top evil, but kicking a puppy while simultaneously stabbing L with a candycane and clubbing Matsuda with a bat made of penguins corpses.
So, yeah. I think I proved my point. pirate

He probably wouldn't be. The Death Note corrupted him. Light was always a genius, but the Death note warped his geniusness and made him evil

I don't think he'd be stupid enough to do that unless there was another way similar to using the death note that would be very difficult to catch him. But then, even if he still thought the world was rotten and that someone needed to do something about it, I doubt regular old teenage Light would've done anything about it had he not found the death note. He was planning to become part of the police, that probably would've been enough for him had the notebook not come into play. As stripedxsocks said, I think that the death note corrupted him and he pretty much went insane with power. I doubt he ever would've ended up like he did further into the manga/anime had he not discovered the note.

I really doubt it. He didn't give that kind of thing a thought until he knew what the note was capable of. He thinks in the kind of way that tells me no

I don't think that anyone else would have the brains of guts to do what Raito did.

Light does have a great sense of justice, but without the Death Note he would just be a wimp like Mikami was. That's my thought.

Yes and no...
I do imagine Light in a position of power and justice, IE law. I don't think he would kill anyone, but he wouldn't exactly discourage other people from killing criminals.
Example: if Light wasn't Kira and someone else was, I think it's safe to say that Light would be an obsessive Kira supporter.

He wouldn't do become a killer. The only reason he did it with the death note is because thinks he won't get caught.
