Alright. I am having trouble finding and getting a nice graphics program. Some that is sleek in it's design, relatively small (Talking 1-2GB), and somewhat user friendly.
Why? I would like it for my profile making and other things.
So if you would, please post what Graphic Program (Or Suite) you think is the best, and a little description of why you recommend the program. Also, include the version of it, and if it is the newest edition/version of the program.

Most people don't use Gimp, most people that want a free program use Gimp. Just for clarification.
The very best out there is going to be Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro, obviously they're not free (quite expensive.)
I use Photoshop Elements (it's a lot cheaper than CS) and Paint Shop Pro.
I'm sure you're looking for something free though, so yes.. Gimp would be the best.

Thanks! And yes, I would like something that is not free. Usually free stuff just doesn't measure up to my standards. Unless it is a spyware scanner and virus scanner xD. Anyways, thanks guys! It is really helpful!

I do want to recommend fireworks. I know photoshop is the standard but Fireworks seems easier to use and "overall" do just as many things. The good part about fireworks is its integrated into flash. All tho know I bet photoshop it is too sense the buyout lol.
Anyways just wanted to let u know another good professional program is out there.

3nodding I figure that this might have been a small oversight on your part, but you really don't need any of us to tell you which is best. You've described to us that you're looking to generate digital images for your own personal use, not professionally.
You can download trial versions of any of the various pay for use programs posted about here, and test them side by side with the previously mentioned Freeware programs and make up your own mind as to which suits your needs best. Best of luck to ya man. wink

I love Paint Shop Pro. I told myself I would start with it and eventually work myself onto Photoshop, but now I have gotten rather attatched to Paint Shop Pro and couldn't imagine not using it. I have an older version, but I hear the new one is even better.
Good luck in finding one that will fit your needs. smile

I have tried both Paints Shop Pro and Photoshop, and I would definately go for Photoshop. I just thinks that it gives some better results..

Gimp is great for most people.
I work with graphics all the time and haven't come close to useing all its features, so unless your going pro 9and even then lol) GIMP will be just fine, GIMP is also opensource, which is a plus.
I have Fireworks as well, its better than GIMP when your doing allot of tedious word and what not, as it lets you focus one one particular image better than GIMP.
but wehrn it comes to making an assortment of related images, or combining various aspects of various images, GIMPS interface is Pro smile
Paintshop of course has more features than both as thats pretty much what Adobe specializes in, but I can't justify the cost for some extra features I may never use xd.
I only have Fireworks because it came with Dreamweaver and the rest of the Macromeda development package smile
I'd suggest at least trying GIMP, if it doesn't work out at least your wallet wont have suffered.
and that way, if you find you need more, then you can help justify the price XD

Actually any version of photoshop 7+can be used up to CS3 the same way if you know the tricks how to do it but if your serious about it go with CS3. I use CS2 tho its the same as CS3 CS3 just has image ready already there =3 theres no difference really.Same thing just a tad bit more advanced, but CS2 is still good.. But cheap wise try Photoshop elements like the one girl above said or even paint shop pro 8 or 11 (i dont use either of them anymore but they're not bad programs.)

Well actually Adobe Illustrator is 10 hundred percent awesome. Then again so are all their products.
I've used every program mentioned here except gimp, and their all good.
But that one guy is a liar Fireworks Ms cannot compare with any Adobe products and not even Paint Shop Pro

photo studio is my favorite it is just like photo shop (in my eyes) i have seen some things that it cant do that photo shop can but its just as good and its my favorite program ut its more of a editing program then a creating program so Microsoft paint is god enough to make it then you can edit it into a better thing with photo studio
