For once, the lands she traversed were familiar. She recognized those mountains up ahead, and that forest beside them. She knew a lake lay beyond them both.

It had taken her some days to get close enough to see the exact shape of the mountains, and decide that yes, they were the ones that she knew. Now, though, she was back to the land where she had grown up. Or near enough to it to count--anything this familiar to her was near enough to count.

She considered striking off in another direction, so as to not see the same place twice. Take a right, into the sun setting in the west--she knew not what lay that way. Or a left, to the east. That was equally unknown.

Yet still, she continued on forward, to the forest of her past.

Where the forest made its last stand on the mountainside, before giving way to the bramble that survived where trees could not, an ashen shadow darted among the stinted trunks. She traveled quickly, a playful grin playing with her silver eyes. Earlier, from a higher lookout on the outcrops of the mountains, she swore that there had been movement. True, it wasn’t uncommon for living things to move about on the fields, mountains, or in the woods; but what was different about this was the certainty with which the thing moved closer. It didn’t meander aimlessly, but rather headed straight for the forest edge.

Diverging from her path to plunge into the undergrowth, leaving the mountainside in her path to confront the traveler. Inquisitive and excited, she hid just within the tree line, waiting for the arrival.

Rina glanced up, thinking she saw movement on the mountain. A patch of white, had it not been? She could see no signs of the snow falling from the high peaks, though, so there was no threat from the snow. And she had seen no predators that were such a pure white.

Then what had it been? What had once been upon the mountain was gone now, leaving Rina with only her questions, as she came to the edge of the forest. She stopped at the edge, not entering. She had not been here since she was a kit, and it was still not too late to go some other way.

It was a smaller female of her own kind. Barely three feet lay between them, but it was the crossing line as obvious as dark and dawn. Laying still, using the fork of tree roots as cover, she peered at the violet marked female through the foliage surrounding her. Her green eyes seemed hesitant, unsure.

Satisfied that no malice was intended, Freya rose quietly to her paws, stepping away from the trunk to make herself apparent. So this was the mysterious traveler? What brought her all the way out here?

Admiring the corset piercing that ran along the length of her back, Freya smiled fondly at her.

“Well aren’t you a cutie.”

Rina watched the white vixen come forward. Was this, perhaps, the white she thought she had seen upon the mountains?

Green eyes stared at the other vixen, noting the seeming lack of tribal tattoo on the pure white fur. And the corset piercings, what looked to be the elder's only modification, running up her legs. Simple, yet quite stunning.

The directness of the other was something unexpected. Rina was used to carefully choosing her words and phrases, to best convey her meaning, as well as to create the best impression.

But if she could be equally forthright, that would be...refreshing.

She was not quite sure she could, though, so for now, she would be careful; wait, and see.

"Thank you. My name is Rina." She had never heard of an elder matching the description of this one, yet it had been such a long time since she had been here--perhaps new tribes had been created in her absence.

Still, to be safe, she added: "I am currently of no tribe." The tattoos she bore were her own markings, not once forced upon her by the mandates of some tribe.
