Lunar Obstacle Race: Eclipse Kyn Name: Eclipse Bonded Name: Rowan Azura Event Rider name: Rowan Azura --- Eclipse and Zephyr ran abreast under the ceiling of leaves, both seeing who can outrace the other. Both had been reluctant when Rowan first told them that she wanted them to participate in the upcoming Obstacle course, but the two soon became enthusiastic and trained together. Especially when they learned that they might be able to bring one of their brethren home as a new member of Edoc'sil.
Through the daily exercises, the two Lunars had grown as close as blood brothers. Though Eclipse was still as quite as ever, the two were seen together more often then with their Rider.
Race ya to the Race! Zephyr told Eclipse, a grin on his face. He let out a sudden burst of speed, one that he had been reserving so that Eclipse could keep up.
Wait-- what? Eclipse called out, pushing himself harder to keep up.
As Zephyr soon disappeared ahead, Eclipse growled in annoyance. Show-off Zephyr. There was c rash ahead but when Eclipse arrived at where he had heard it, what-ever had happened had already been over, though there was pretty angry weird-rodent with a very fluffy tail. he would have to ask Rowan what that animal was called. Continuing ahead, he checked his connection with Rowan to make sure he was on course. Their rider is already at the beginning of the race, keeping contact with the two Lunars to make sure they were on track. Rosemary had carried her there and the red European was now circling ahead, making sure the two didn't get into any trouble.
Pfft, Rosemary seemed pretty annoyed that Europeans weren't allowed to enter, but Rowan told her that it would be unfair as she could just fly. Rose was still ticked though.
Soon, Eclipse could see glimpses of Zephyr ahead, his sandy fur blending into the forest better then Eclipse's blue. The older Lunar looked back at eclipse and Eclipse flicked his ears in annoyance, pushing himself to go faster. He soon felt tired, his back legs burned from having to navigate the underbrush -which meant jumping over it most of the time- and his lungs were starting to feel dry. Zephyr's a good runner as all Lunars are, but zephyr had been born with wind beneath his feet. he just seemed to soar over any distance.
Have to do better then that! Zephyr laughed at Eclipse through their bond.
Shut it! Eclipse growled silently through their bond, though it was in a good-natured way. Zephyr didn't seem to hear though and Eclipse pressed on.
A Long while Later, Eclipse broke out of the underbrush and tumbled onto the rode, ending up laying in his side. He was panting, his tongue rolling out as he breathed heavily to sooth his aching lung and out-of-control heart.
Rosemary landed on the road a moment later, folding in her wings. She looked at the woods around her with distaste- she preferred the open plains and mountains, where no trees obstructed her wings and prevented her complete freedom. When she went hunting around the mountains, she prefers to fly over the ocean in hopes of fish, or the large clearings that stretched out for kilometers in each direction.
"I don't know." Rowan replied to a question, apparently Zephyr's as he was looking intently at Rowan. Eclipse wasn't feel particularly Curious at the moment and didn't question Rowan. If it was important. she would tell Clip.
"Someone will tell us. I'll be Rider Eclipse for this to guide him, I trust you can take acre of yourself Zeph?"
Zephyr raised an eyebrow as a silent conversation ran between the sandy Kyn and Rider. Zephyr seemed to have seen that comment as a question of his reliability. Clip knows him well enough by now.
(Zephyr's entry is the exact the same except it will be from his viewpoint, not Clip's.) Because Cherry is an idiot at Gaia's actions, she keeps forgetting to generate a random number with her posts. She deletes those and keeps on going, but those posts are recorded in the post count of the thread. Here's the amount of posts she has forgotten to generate a random number on: 4

Pit Jump

As everything was explained to Rowan and Eclipse, the two traveled to the starting line.
G'luck Rosemary told them and Rowan smiled.
"Alright, here we go!" Eclipse responded enthusiastically, bounding forward down the road. Rowan's weight barely slowed him down, and he ran with all the speed and grace bestowed upon the Lunars.
Eclipse skidded to a halt as they approached the first obstacle- a pit. It was about as wide as the road and Eclipse considered it for a moment.
"You think you can get across with me on?" Rowan asked as Eclipse eyed the chasm.
We'll find out soon enough. The Lunar backed away from the pit, measuring out the distance before he stopped, a good ten meters away from the edge. Rowan bent down, grabbing firmly onto Eclipse's fur as he suddenly sprang forward, watching the approaching pit carefully.
He raised his front paws while his hind legs kicked off at the very edge, sending him flying across the pit. Landing lightly on the other side, Eclipse grinned as he skidded to a halt.
And there goes obstacle number one.

Rope Bridge

---
After a bit more traveling, the two reached the rope bridge that spanned across the canyon. To their left was the roar of the waterfall, and a light spray could be felt on Rowan's face.
"Alright, I think we should go separately on this one." Rowan told the Lunar, getting off his back. eclipse looked at her quizzically.
"I can throw you off balance, and rope bridges are easier to cross as a human. I'll go first." As Rowan carefully made her way across the bridge, she reminded herself not to look down. Though she's never been very afraid of heights, it was certainly scarier without Rosemary's comforting form underneath her. As she reached the other side, she hopped off the bridhe and waited for the Lunar to get across.
Eclipse looked at the rope with distrust as he put one unsure paw on it. Slipping he caught himself by biting onto another rope with his jaws.
I-I can't do this. Eclipse said fearfully to Rowan. Even though there was a net beneath, he feared that it might not hold his weight.
"Yes you can, just try...you'll get it." Rowan encouraged the Lunar, though she feared for him. Eclipse gulped and gathered his courage, bring his paw back up onto the rope.
He kept himself low, taking one careful step at a time. He was about half-way there when--
Eclipse yelped as his right paw slipped from the rope and he slipped, his front leg dangling from the bridge as he struggled to get up again.
"Clip!" Eclipse growled and struggled to haul himself up.

Rope Bridge

(Null! Enough with the sevens! gonk )
Eclipse shakily got himself back on all fours his claws extended to grip into nothing but thin air. He hadn't prepared himself for something like this.
"Keep your center gravity low!" Rowan called out, not noticing how hard she was gripping the end of the rope bridge. Through their bond, Rowan could feel Eclipse's fear.
I can't do this! Clip howled, and Rowan felt a twinge in her heart. Eclipse had never been the type of person -or kyn- who would give up. To show fear was denting his dignity, something that he always protected with care. He must be truly afraid if he was bending his pride enough to admit he was afraid.
"It's not a far drop below, just imagine that you're a foot up from a plain of grass." Rowan suggested. Eclipse took in a shaky breath and continued his careful crossing.
As he moved his front paw to carefully place it on the next rope, a wind shook the bridge and eclipse whimpered, falling down on his belly and grasping onto the rope desperately. This would waste more time, from their experience with Eclipse's last fall, it took time to get back up again.
Rowan can't bear to see eclipse like this for much longer.

(Told y'all my luck is horrible...)
This definitely wasn't Eclipse's best day. Shakily, Eclipse dragged himself up again taking a dreadfully long time.
Rowan...help. Rowan nodded, though worry was clear in her eyes. Rowan closed her eyes and tried to guide Eclipse through their bond. One step at a time...one step at a time.
Eclipse didn't get very far when he slipped for a third time, though this time the whole was larger then normal between the ropes. Eclipse would have fallen if his left forepaw was caught behind a different rope.
The water below spitted in every direction as they collided with the rocks. the waterfall roared, and water droplets dripped off Eclipse's waterproof fur. His heart quickened, threatened to jump out of his chest.
Why, oh, why, oh why did he agree to join this race? He had barely begun yet he had already wasted a lot of precious time.

"Eclipse!" Not bearing to watch any any more, Rowan went back onto the rope bridge, clutching at the rope on either side so tightly that it hurt.
As she reached where Eclipse was, she tried to ignore the drop below as she tried to help haul the Lunar up. It took a while considering Eclipse's size and weight, but the two managed to get themselves straightened. With Rowan's hand on his neck, the two cross carefully, and Eclipse felt more at ease with his rider right next to him. As the two finally arrived on the opposite side, Eclipse collapsed on the ground and the two took a few moment to calm down.
Rowan stroked Eclipse's fur and murmured,
"We should head to the next obstacle now." Eclipse nodded in agreement and tiredly pushed himself upright. Rowan climbed onto his back and the two once again bounded down the road.

River Cross
1, 5, 6, 7, 9, x
---
Following the path the two finally reached a river that flowed towards the canyon below. A net could be seen a ways off and it reassured Rider and Kyn that they would be able to cross safely.
Now though Eclipse was confident about this, Rowan was not. She had always been hydrophobic, ever since an incident with the river when she had been a small child.
"W-we have to cross that?" Rowan asked gulping. She eyed the water with dread. Eclipse grinned, showing his white fangs.
What? Afraid to get a little wet? He teased. Rowan rolled her eyes, Eclipse was learning too much from Rosemary, what happened to the quite, calm, Clip that Rowan knew? Oh well, he was probably just excited because of the race.
"No, but drowning is a concern. I'm sure I don't wan tot die here thank you very much." Was Rowan's annoyed reply. Still grinning, Eclipse slowly walked into the water, making sure each foot was planted firmly before placing the next one. The current was strong, and it was hard at places to stay upright.
The whole time Rowan held on as tightly as she could. When a wave splashed over Rowan she was pulled to the side, trying to keep her grip. This caught Clip off balance and his paw slipped on a small unstable pebble. He lost his grip on the ground and the current wrenched the two apart.
Rider and Kyn were washed downstream, though they soon hit the net. Rowan desperately grabbed onto the netting and dragged herself back to shore. She doubled over, coughing as Eclipse came up beside her, shaking his fur dry. He seemed to have enjoyed it, Rowan had not. She had felt so helpless as the water dragged her down, her sword weighing her down. If the netting wasn't there for her to drag herself upright, she would have drowned before anything else bad could have happened to her. Pressing the water out of her hair, Rowan shook before she gathered up her courage.
"L-let's try again." She gasped, trying to sound confident.

River Cross
1, 5, 6, 7, 9, x

Rowan once again climbed on top of Eclipse's back, the soggy fur feeling oddly alien underneath her. Gathering her nerves, Rowan told herself:
You've went up to a feral's nest in order to get Rose's egg. This is just a bit of water, no biggy. Rowan nodded to eclipse who once again approached the river.
Taking a careful step forward, Eclipse tested the ground beneath his feet before setting down his paw firmly and putting the next one forward. He was careful to keep Rowan safe and her head above the water, though it was soon getting hard, the water going high and high up his back as he himself struggled to remain above the river.
A suddenly rush of water hit Eclipse on the side and he dug his claws into the earth below. As it passed, Clip loosened to put the next paw forward.
Another shock of water pounded at him and this time, he was not securely anchored down. With a yelp, Eclipse desperately tried to grasp the ground beneath him but alas, it was too late. His paw carried above the ground, Eclipse cried at Rowan:
Hold on!
This time, Rowan managed to stay on Eclipse's back, keeping her head above water as the Lunar continued to try to secure himself on the riverbed. They reached the netting again and slowly dragged themselves out of the water in the same fashion as last time.
Darn it. Growled Eclipse, shaking one paw with annoyance to get the water out. Shaking his head, he dried his fur but managed to get Rowan even more wet.
Woops, sorry about that.

The two tried again. As they entered the water again, Eclipse sudenly had an idea. The ground beneath his feet was pebbles, rocks, and dirt.
Geez, I learned earth magic for a reason didn't I? Eclipse rolled his eyes. Now why hadn't he thought about his magic before? Calling upon the magic, he molded the stone around his paws, so that he was anchored down securely as he proceeded. The casing on his paw dissolved whenever he lifted it to make the next step.
As they reached an area of the river which was too high for Eclipse to touch the bottom, the blue Lunar called upon earth magic again to raise it and do the same thing as before. Rowan just kept her eyes tightly shut, arms grabbing onto Clip's fur firmly, and preparing to get swept away again. As Eclipse neared the opposite shore, he told Rowan sofyly.
We've made it alive. There was a hint of humor in his voice. Rowan cracked her eyes opene and Clip playfully splashed water at her with his tail. Rowan growled at him with annoyance.
"You're gonna get it when we get onto solid ground--off" splash. Eclipse shook Rowan off into the water, though it was only knee-deep here.
Hey, don't be saying things like that when you are on my back. I might just decide to throw you off. Eclipse teased, shaking himself dry again.

Lantern Dig
3, 8, 5, x
---
As they rested for a moment after their Ordeal -Rowan's ordeal anyways- Eclipse walked over to something that seemed to be glowing green. it was a small speck and Eclipse eniffed it, trying to remember the scent.
The judge said that after the river crossing...lantern dig. I have to find some sort of object buried around here. he said that there will be a sample of it around here, so I'm guessing it's this. Eclipse told Rowan as she looked at him quizzically. After a few more moment spent memorizing the scent, Rowan walked alongside Eclipse as he sniffed the ground, following the faintest whiff of the scent.
They were going in some pretty confusing circles, so Rowan almost lost hope that Eclipse would ever find the object. He would often start digging in one place, tearing the ground apart before stopping mid-way through and thinking better about this decision.
As they neared the edge of the canyon, Eclipse's ears suddenly perked up.
"You smell something?" Rowan asked as Clip stopped, sniffing the ground beneath his feet.
Yes... He replied, then crouched down, with his hind in the air as he began digging into the earth, alternating paws. Rowan stepped to the side a bit more as specks of dirt began to hit her. Soon, Eclipse stopped and took his head back from the hole he had made, a small pebble-shaped thing that gave off a faint glow, though it was probably stronger then it appears since they were in broad daylight.
C'mon! He said excitedly, carrying the object in his mouth as Rowan got onto his back.
The two soared to their next obstacle.

Stone Hop
2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, x

As they followed the edge of the Canyon south, they stopped as the rock beneath them jutted out over the canyon, within leaping distance to a tall pillar that stuck out from below, along with three other similar ones. The last one in the row was close enough to leap onto the opposite side of the canyon.
Jump across? Easy enough...right?
Hold on Tight. Eclipse told his rider, the object from the last obstacle, was sitting uncomfortably between his teeth. Rowan bend down low as she did for the first obstacle and Eclipse took a few steps back so that he could get a running leap.
The netting beneath them gave Eclipse comfort, knowing that all is well if they did fall. Suddenly, Eclipse ran forward, gathering speed and momentum as he leaped off the ledge and towards the pillar...
Eclipse landed right on, though he had to dig his claws into the dirt and use a bit of earth magic to prevent himself from sliding off the other end of the pillar. Eclipse grinned at Rowan, who grinned back. Now that was fun. It was like flying, except without the rhythmic beat of wings to accompany it.
"That was awesome Clip!" Rowan praised and Eclipse rolled his eyes.
Three more pillars to go. Don't count your chickens before they hatch. Zephyr coiled up like a spring and leaped towards the next one, barely catching the edge and pulling himself back up. Rowan had almost been thrown off this time. Almost, but not quite.
The next two pillars came easily, though Rowan slipped on the last one and Eclipse had to turn around quickly, catching th back of his rider's shirt in his teeth. Rowan was a bit shakened after this, but they finally reached the other side of the Canyon.
"Phew. That was a bit scary eh?" Rowan said they finally landed onto solid ground once more. Staying on top of Eclipse's back, they followed the path that took them down, until they reached the bottom of the canyon.

Pillar Weave

The stopped at a ledge, the pillars that they had crossed so easily towering above them. There were two ledges on either side of the river. The First ledge on their side was too far away too get too...
If I can jump to the ledge on the other side, then back to the one on this side, and back and forth, I should be able to make it upstream. Clip informed Rowan, looking at the stream.
"And if you fall?" Rowan asked fearfully.
It's not a long drop. The water is not strong. I can swim ashore and try again. Clip responded and crouched down low, reparing himself for the jump.
Rowan just gulped and held on tight. not more water! She hoped that they could make it across safely...
Eclipse landed on the ledge on the opposite side without much problem, though he almost rammed into the sheer cliff. Preparing himself again, he faced back towards the shore that they were a moment ago, looking for the next ledge. Trying to angle himself correctly, Eclipse pushed off with his back legs and soared over the water. But as he did this, Rowan tightened her grip, closing her eyes, they narrowly missed a pillar. Zephyr got distracted by this and they hit the next ledge at an angle, too much and Eclipse tried to grab onto it. he slipped and the two were dragged into the water, though Rowan kept a hard grip on Eclipse.
She might have drowned if she hadn't. As silly as it may sound, Rowan can't swim. Eclipse pulled the both of them back on shore and they both took a moment to catch their breath.
That didn't go so well. Admitted Clip.

Pillar Weave

---
Getting back up, Eclipse examined the ledges critically.
I have to hit them straight on, or my momentum has a chance of veering me off the ledge...there isn't too much area on each ledge for me to gain a good running start...this is a hard one. Eclipse growled. Rowan agreed as she got back onto his back.
"Well, let's try again. But I think I've had enough water to last me a life-time today." Eclipse chuckled as he prepared himself for the jump again.
Rowan held on for dear life as they collided with the next ledge, Eclipse skidding to a halt on the ledge. they had missed the Pillers by mere inches. It would have hurt a lot of this had rammed into them. They jumped onto the next ledge without incident, and the one after that too. Soon, all they had to do was to jump to the opposite side and they were free, ready for the next obstacle. she could see a small opening in the rock on the opposite side. As Eclipse neared the edge to jump, his foreleg slipped at the edge and plummeted both of them into the water. Zephyr swam with the current, but close to the walls so that he was able to reach the first ledge they had jumped onto. Hauling himself and Rowan out of the water, he said sheepishly,
Woops, my bad. It had been a silly mistake on his part. Rowan shook her head in annoyance.
'It's alright...at least we're alive. You should rest before atempting to do this again."
