Ironic that you should mention, because I learned this one the hard way. I had a few friends outside of my coven that were interested in occult mysticism so they started messing around with the Ouija board. The problem being that they were dabbling, and bad things can come of that. Sure enough they opened some kind of door that they couldn't get shut and bad things started to happen. The board itself seemed to be the center of the problem, so they decided to get rid of it by; you guessed it; throwing it in the trash. Horrible things continued to follow my friends. Luckily, they were able to get it back out of the trash bin before it was gone to the landfill.

Now, I've never seen it written anywhere, but one of the older witches I know said the best way to nuetralize a divinatory tool is to burn it. This isn't always easy or environmentally safe, what with the lacquers and things on commercially sold Ouija boards, so in lieu of that, I recommed CCE-ing the instrument and binding it before disposing of it.

That's the same thing I told him when I was explaining why I didn't know how to get rid of one. Anything involved with spirits freaks me out regardless of whether or not they're good or bad.

I will give you this: it is true that things hold power because we invest power in them.

However, I think it is rather pompous to condescend to another person, chastising their beliefs as false. It's not you for or anyone else to decide the validity of someone's beliefs. Your opinion is valuable, and I am sure well appreciated, but in the end it is yours, and should be stated as such.

Additionally, the idea of "just stop believing" is a rocky one. Beliefs are powerful things, as you have so tactfully pointed out. People will live, fight and die by their beliefs, though hopefully none of the above in this particular instance. To simply halt a belief, no matter how inconsequential you may view it to be, may be a real struggle for the object of your scorn. Just something to consider in the future.

From my experiences, the ouija board is a center for energy. I've found out that it doesn't always have to be a speaker for those who haven't passed on, but I've read about some people who are very in tune to energies moving the (what's it called?) glass to what they want it to read... even from a far away distance. Anyone try this before? I would love to, but my mother forbids I bring one into the house.

And violent video games don't produce mass murderers. Energy can take positive and negative forms, and some of those forms may be intelligent. Science has not yet progressed far enough to prove the crontrary. Intelligent malevolent energy can pass through a Ouija board into whoever is messing around with it. And I hope I'm not being rude, but it's fairly obvious either you've never used one, or if you have, someone put safeguards on the board before you did. You'd believe just as readily if something had latched onto you after playing with one.

Edit: I may be coming accross too strongly, but I believe that there is a reason that Ouia boards (even seeing one in a store) have made me sick to my stomach since I was a kid. There's something about them that has always screamed "BAD" to me even before I got into Wicca.
