Ok, it's more commonly known as sunshine toast, but I grew up callin' it an egg in the basket, so that's what I'm makin'.

Ok, Ingredients!
1. Egg
2. Slice of bread (I'm usin' whole wheat in the example, but any will do)
3. Seasonin' salt (normal salt is fine, I'm just a sucker for flavor)
4. Butter
5. Fryin' pan (about the same size as the slice of toast, makes things easier)
6. Flipper
7. Wine glass (optional)
8. Plate, knife, and fork (ya gotta eat it somehow)
User Image

Steps, with perty pictures!

Step One:
Take the wine glass and press it against the middle of the bread. Twist slightly until you cut through the entire slice of bread, then slowly bring glass up. Save the little circle piece of bread for later. Also, if you don't want to use a wine glass you can cut a hole with a knife or somethin' similar to that, just as long as you have a hole about that size in the middle!
User Image

Step Two:
BUTTER TIME! Ok, I LOVE butter, therefore I use it a lot, so be warned. Spread butter over both sides of the slice of toast as well as the little circular bread piece.
User Image

Step Three:
Ok, fun time! Turn on your stove thingy to about medium heat. With my stove it's out of nine and I used it on a six, so however your stove works...yeah, figure it out. xd Anyhoo, place some more butter in the fryin' pan as it heats up and continue in this fashion with little pieces of butter until the butter begins to make a sizzlin' noise, then you know it's nice and hot!
User Image

Step Four:
Place the piece of bread into the pan and wait for the one side to turn a beautiful golden colour (this may mean you have to flip it every once and a while to see if it's golden yet or not). Once it is golden on one side, flip if over and cook it until it's golden on the other side.
User ImageUser Image

Step Five:
Put another little piece of butter in the middle of the hole in the bread. It should sizzle, showin' that the temperature is still good. Before all the butter melts away, crack the egg into the hole. Then add salt to the top of the egg.

User ImageUser Image

Step Six:
Wait a little while as the bottom side of the egg gets cooked. You should be able to see the whites of the egg turnin' whiter through the hole, and when you think it's cooked long enough, use the flipper and flip it over. Then add salt to this side of the egg and wait about the same time as you did on the first side. Special tip: Poke the egg middle with your flipper to test if it's ready or not. If you want the yolk to still be yolky, the middle should me tender but not completely hard. If you want your yolk to be solid, wait until the middle is solid to touch. You might need to flip the toast a few times so one side doesn't get over cooked.

User Image

Step Seven:
Almost done! Now the hardest part is over! Take the toast and egg thingy off the fryin' pan and unto your plate. Remember that little circle of bread you buttered? Still got it? Good! Now place that little piece of bread on the fryin' pan. You can probably turn the stove off now and use the heat already absorbed into the pan to finish cookin' the piece of bread. Add salt if you want, but it's still tasty unsalted. Once one side is golden, flip it over until the other side matches the first side! Then remove the little piece of bread and place it in the middle of the bread where it used to be before you put an egg it it.

And you're DONE! Now enjoy your delicious Egg in the Basket!

User Image

Eatin' Tips: I don't really like just plain egg, so I prefer to cut my egg middle open and spread the yolk and egg around the bread and then eat it. As for the little piece of bread, you can use it to wipe up the extra little crumbs after you've finished the main part, or you can just shove it in your mouth in the beginnin' or eat it with the main part. It's all up to you!

ENJOY!

I knew I should have made somethin' vegan friendly. OOOO, I should do mashed potatoes made the old fashioned way!!! Oh wait, that needs milk and butter, drat. Well, I could do the one pot dinner minus the shrimp! Wait...what's in mayonnaise?

I love eggs in a basket!!
I HAVEN'T HAD IT IN A LOOOONNG TIME.

I like using cookie cutters for the basket part.
They make the egg look so cute.
Butterfly one day, heart the next.

You're good at this, and it made me hungry.

: D

But I don't think I've ever put butter directly on the bread, just melted butter in the pan.

So I'll have to try it this way, too. ^ ^

I cook with a LOT of butter, which might explain my random chest pains. Oh well, I'd rather live life happy and short then long and miserable anyway. And cookie cutters eh? I'll have to see if I can find some and try that out!

HA! The mayonnaise I use doesn't contain lard, so I'm safe!

Ingredients: Soybean oil, water, whole eggs and egg yolks, vinegar, salt, sugar, lemon juice, natural flavors, calcium disodium EDTA (used to protect quality). Gluten-free!

Why don't you eat eggs though? I mean, chickens gotta poop 'em out anyway, so it doesn't kill 'em. The only things I'll have from animals is milk and eggs since those need to come out of 'em. Also, I can't live without cheese. sweatdrop

Because they're mean to the chickens.
:[
And eggs taste gross.

The brand that my mom gets eggs and milk from is from a place that isn't mean to the animals. They don't drug the animals to make their bodies think they're pregnant so they produce more, it's a natural farm. My whole family is a bunch of nature freaks, so we always get stuff that's natural, though my parents eat meat.

See, I'm not against eatin' meat, I know it's needed for most to survive and if we didn't they'd all get overpopulated and die from starvation which is way worse, I'm just against the cruelty of animals, so if the eggs and milk are gotten nicely then I have nothin' against it.

And yeah, eggs are gross alone, but they're yummy with stuff and an excellent source of protein!

I wouldn't have a problem buying from a natural farm
But there are none like that around here so..
