Many people have said that fangirls are dangerous, messed up in the head and even downright creepy. What are your thoughts on this assumption?

No. Not all fan girls are rabid. I can't say why not. Besides, who wants to be a REGULAR fan girl? It's more amusing to be rabid. ninja
However, RENOKO is an example of being too much of a fan girl!
Am not! =0...
Shush. You'll confuse people.
First of all, being a rabid fan girl means the following:
1.) Scaring people 2.) Freaking people out. 3.) Awesome a**-kicking powers (in case bishie has been insulted) 4.) Beats having your heart broken by a real person 5.) and/or...TIME FOR THE FAN CLUBS TO HAVE AN ASSEMBLY!
XD!!!!!!
Being a normal fan girl means you don't have the luxury of these things, because:
1.) You like the bishie, but you aren't crazy. 2.) You like the bishie, but you don't defend the bishie. 3.) You think all the rabid fan girls are scary and should go die. 4.) and/or you don't have the guts to be that crazy over an anime character.
My case is closed. In Renoko's case, she literally wants to hurt people if they say anything negative about her bishie. I do mean ANYTHING. ~cough~ I do rest my case.
Nu uh! They hurt themselves! ~shot~
~tapes Renoko's mouth shut~ Anyway...these types of split personalities are the types you should avoid. Never create anyone like Renoko...it's really not a good idea.
Being rabid means you get to infect your bishie so that they only belong to YOU! twisted
Normal fan girls think us rabid fan girls are a whole different species, which we actually are since we're infected. =D

A rabid fangirl, in my opinion, is a normal fangirl who loves their said-object-of-adoration to the point of annoyance to all the other people around them, or if they "embarress" other fans. Furthermore, I don't believe it's a compliment to call yourself a "rabid fangirl." I believe it is an insulting term...

I'm sorry, my boy but you would be wrong. while both regular and rabid fangirls may both come in the flavor of annoying (it's a given for any fandom) most fangirlness is just silly fun. however to be a rabid fangirl, there are certain lines that have been crossed. It implies a . . . lets say . . . extra bit of obsessiveness with the anime or a specific character. Example: reading a few good, recommended fanfics - normal. Seeking out and reading every fanfic you can - slightly rabid. Writing fanfics yourself - a little more rabid. and when Yaoi comes into play, that's definitely, definitely crossing the line into rabid territory. Rabid is not an insult but a descriptor that we put on ourselves to determine degrees of fangirlness just as Geek is no longer an insult but a title adopted by the geeks themselves to identify their subculture. I am very proud to be both a Geek and a Rabid Seto Fangirl.

You make an excellent point. I, myself, am a rabid fan girl, but I use that term merely to frighten normal people in society. xD Actually, no I don't. I just use it, because it signifies that I am indeed radioactive and you should indeed wear protective gear at all times.
NOTE: You are only poisonous/and or radioactive to and in the opinion of the bishie(s) you are having (an) obsession(s) with. Although, in some cases, bishies will not wear looks of total disgust. However, since most do, it is determined that the more disgusted you are, the more dependent you will be on your fan girls to make your life complete. This has been proven true in my studies. 3nodding
So, thus, some of the insulting terms that some people find insulting are now not so insulting for people who actually find amusement in their supposedly "label" or their "clique(s)/group(s)" that define them. Instead, they are using it merely as an adjective to help say who they are. It is merely another way of enjoying themselves.
As it stands, it depends on the personality of the person to determine whether or not they actually enjoy calling themselves what they are. If they do not, that's when they're insulting themselves and thus it has been used in an insulting context. Otherwise, it is not an insult.

I am very proud to be both a Geek and a Rabid Seto Fangirl. First things, first, miss. I am a female. Now, you say that non-rabid fangirls "can be just as annoying as rabid fangirls." By that statement, you aren't using the term "rabid" correctly at all. This is especially seen in your "examples." First off, you automatically assume that yaoi equates a fan of a series as a "rabid fangirl." This is downright insulting to those of us who read and enjoy yaoi, whether cannon or otherwise. A "rabid" fan is someone who takes their fandom to the point of obsession in which it becomes a bother for the people around them. "rabid" is, in no way, a self-descriptor, as it is in your own little world. "Geek" I can understand, but certainly not "rabid." Calling anyone rabid implies a certain sense of animalistic and uninhebited tendancies toward the interest in question. If you do call youself a "rabid" fangirl, it is almost like what the Naruto fandom calls its own fans: Narutards. Let's take apart this word for a moment. It is a portmanteau of "Naruto" and "retard." The word "retard" in today's slang has been adopted as a politically incorrect term for a mentally challeged person, and is considered an insult. By pairing it with the name for the fandom in question, the name of the fans in question becomes just as insulting as well. That is a much closer analogy to what you describe.

Not all fan girls are rabid. I'm a girl and a huge fan, but I don't squeal and get overly annoying about things. It depends on the person and the level of obsession. There is a thin line between being passionate about something or being overly obsessed
