Avast ye scum ridden weevil shaggers!
So help me if I keel haul ye and grow barnacles on ye starboard knacker!
So it seems that a few of our users are concerned about the lack of discussion in the Main Forum. I went into our ED to check out what types of threads were in there.
Hate to say it, but it seems like a lot of the threads in our version of ED wouldn't fly in the actual ED. In fact, our ED looks more like an idealized version of GD.
ED is supposed to be a forum for in-depth debate. That means citing sources, explaining for position at great length, anticipating responses, etc. But it seems like most of the threads in ED are opinion threads. I'm seeing people citing "a university" rather than specifics. The best threads in ED are the ones that give a quasi-bibliography at the end with all of the sources.
I personally think we should introduce stricter guidelines for our version of ED, recruit more experienced EDers, and move the opinion threads out of ED and into the Main Forum. Anyone else agree?
