I believe in Speaking in toungs, it is hard not to when you hear it so often. It is an awsome sound to hear. It is a gift, and though I do not have it. I know so many people who do. (most of my church, pentecostal)

Its real, have no doubt. The bible doesnt make things up.
Its just, especially in modern materialist nations, its really not that common.
A girl in my small group, tho, who was originally born in Puerto Rico and lived there for some time witnessed it in her church. I really think that in the USA we rely too much in comfort. Great things come with great faith.

I believe with all my heart. Not only because I myself have been touched by the holy spirit. For several months I struggled and prayed that God send the holy spirit to me and give me gifts of the spirit (words of wisdom; words of knowledge; faith; healing; miracle-working; prophecy; distinguishing of spirits; tongues; interpretation of tongues, etc...). Some women at my church prayed over me many many times. And then one night at youth group, I just began to speak in tongues. My entire body got the chills, and I was shaking and crying with joy. Never had I felt so weak and so happy before. I thank God for giving me the gift of tongues. Another member of my youth group, a boy a couple years younger than me, is really strong in the spirit. One time during a prayer meeting, he just started seeing visions. I truly believe God sent them. So yeah...I believe. I've experienced the holy spirit, I've seen the holy spirit. It's true.

I speak in tongues and have been able to do so for many years. I believe it is a gift to us for being able to pray without understanding, speaking to God (1 Cor 14:2). It is not the highest gift to edify the Body (1 Cor 14:5), and it is meant for a sign to unbelievers (1 Cor 14:22). I have mostly used it in my personal prayer life, although I have seen it done in charismatic churches. Then, there is always an interpretation. It is something we just have to ask for. When I started speaking in tongues, I noticed I had a larger portion of annointing from the Holy Spirit to hear His voice and to understand His Word. It has helped me to pray in times of spiritual warfare over the years.

It's real. However, it is a gift. Not all people receive that gift. I don't have it.
Not having the gift doesn't mean you're a bad Christian or something, though. xd

I know it is very real, and I have experienced for myself it many times in the past year. It's amazing, the physical warmth in your chest - your heart, and the beautiful sound, not mumbled slurs. But most of all the topless feeling of ultimate high, the joy is so great.
And a year ago I never thought I could do it. I'm just not a loud, highly spiritual person. I just figured it wasn't for me to receive. Just when you think you've got everything down, he goes and surprises you again.
Personally, I believe it is a gift given to all who are saved - but not all accept it.
I pray for the day my mother breaks out of her quiet shell and feels what I feel.

I too do believe in the spiritual gift "speaking in tongues" and I'm no Pentecostal denomination supporter. Scripture tells us that not everyone will have the same spiritual gifts (including the Gift of Tongues). These spiritual gifts are meant for the Church and not to prove one's salvation.
Today, every Church and denomination should test all spiritual gifts in the body to be sure its true and authentic. If one starts speaking in tongues, then there must be an interpreter. If not, then the person must be kept silent. If the whole church or more than three people, speaks in tongues, it violates scripture. (1 Cor. 14:27)

I do believe in tongues, but I think that there are many people in the pentecostal community that fake it to seem more pious. I've spent this last school year at a charismatic Christian university. At first (because I was brought up in a Southern Baptist church) I was fascinated with it. And there was plenty of oppurtunity to observe it at every chapel service. But as the year wore on it really began to get on my nerves. I do not posess this gift (I actually don't believe I have any spiritual gift at all) and I realized that over 70% of the student body could not possibly all posess the same gift and ONLY that gift. Because so much emphasis was put on this gift at this university, I believe that many who claim to have it are actually are just making noise, trying to fit in. Perhaps I'm wrong, but perhaps I'm not. Either way, there are spiritual gifts, but I don't believe everyone has them.
