If you were Satan how would you keep someone from getting to know God?
On sunday, our youth pastor was talking about it and he said that if he was Satan he probably would make sure the person would have the most perfect life so they would never ever have the need to come to God. Usually people who have been through hardships are the people that come to God because they know they NEED him. But people who think they have everything believe that they dont need God because well they have everything...or do they?

Honestly, my youth pastor truly makes sundays way more interesting smile

Kind of an odd question to come from a pastor. Kind of an odd question to ask anyone, no matter who you are.

That's really interesting. I'm reminded of the "Screwtape Letters" by C.S. Lewis. (It's such a wonderful, life changing book.)

Of course the enemy wants us to keep occupied. He wants our lives to be comfortable, so we will say "I don't need God".

C.S. Lewis was smart in trying to envision his main character of the novel as a devil bent on destroying God's loved ones. What a better way to get back at the One above, than to hurt the ones that He's closest to? It really puts the reader into perspective of how the enemy's mind can work.

yeah it is an odd question but he really is super kool and funny. he asked us that question because he wanted us to see how satan might think and how he can just twist one little thing . How can u fight ur enemy if you dont know anything about ur enemy? (how he thinks etc.)

Well, the Bible already tells us Satan's tactics when it comes to waging war against God. Jesus said that he is the "father of all lies." He constantly bombards our minds with lies:
"That person must really hate me."
"God will never forgive me."
"This is not fair!"
S. often goes to one of two extremes: 1. idolizes us and accuses God (or someone else); or
2. idolizes someone else and accuses us.
And it is true that he makes us think we don't need God with the trap of excessiveness, but he also uses our weaknesses to his advantage when tempting us. When he tempted Jesus, he waited until near the end of the 40 days when J. was most hungry and tired.

You know, I haven't had it easy, but that doesn't exactly inspire me to drop down on my knees and kiss some big, celestial butt. I just work on my own to make things better. And a couple of spells help sometimes, too. twisted

That's really interesting, I never thought of it that way. I guess I might do the same. (Actually no, I'd probably get bored and screw with people a little more than that.)

But even though I have had an easy life, that's not my reason for not being Christian, so this thought doesn't worry me.

Teach a nicer one, one that gives you material things for believing in him.

I think it would depend on the person. and there would be two extremes. 1) make their lives completely comfortable so they think they don't need God or 2) take everything away from them so they blame God for their lack of material possessions.

On the contrary. The message behind it seems valid enough. People who have had troubles in life are probably more likely to turn to God sooner. Though I believe that at some point in time everyone will have a chance to turn to him, no matter what their live brings them.

Actually, I think it's a very smart question. It makes you think about what you shouldn't do, because it could steer people clear of God. (Depending on what your answer is of course)

Anyway, I think I'd trick people into believing that sinful things aren't really bad, or get rid of guilt. That way, nobody would feel the need for repentance, among other things.

Another great way, which I was reminded of by a quote is, "Satan's biggest triumph is getting people to believe he doesn't exist." -Father Slavko

A question my youth group leader asks us sometimes is "What would be one of the best ways to ruin someone's life?" His answer is "Give them a million dollars."
Think about it, it sounds like the thing to make someone's life better, but in reality, most people will go nuts and spend it all, or more, and will end up extremely depressed and crazy. Just think about it, it's hard for me to explain. xD
