OK, this is probably one of the greatest bands ever. They are the pioneers of groove metal. The legendary Dimebag Darrell was in this band. The drummer was Vinnie Paul who was Dime's brother and he is now with a band called HELLYEAH!!! who is going to tour with Korn at family values. Anway, listen to the songs 5 minutes alone, This Love, Walk, Hollow, Cemetary Gates, My name is Revolution, Cowboys from Hell, ect. and you will see the awesomeness of this band. RIP DIME!

Groove Metal....? Dude that genre doesn't even exist. Pantera was one of the "Big Four" pioneers of Thrash Metal.

1. Metallica
2. SLAYER
3. Pantera
4. MegaDeth

But personally I liked Phil the most because of his unique vocal style. Favorite song has to be Becoming.

They weren't really gettin heavy until the 1990's. They are definately groove metal, when those bands got famous Pantera was just a couple of boys singin' glam and power metal.

Vulgar Display of Power was their marking point after that the band fell to pieces.

I would think it was more Far Beyond Driven, but yeah. The Great Southern Trendkill wasn't too good. But Reinventing the Steel gave them a grammy nomination for Revolution is my name. Then two years later they broke up. Then late 2004 ....it happened.

You forgot to mention the part where Dime and Paul joined and formed DAMAGEPLAN.

Damageplan kicked more a**. I kind of prefer Damageplan to both Pantera and Hellyeah.

Me too. I can already predict that Hellyeah will suck live because of Chad.

Yeah, that's why I say 'it' happened. (December 8th 2004 in Columbus, Ohio while playing 13 seconds into Damageplan's first song a man in a black hoodie came to stage and...I can't say cany more.) Damageplan was a new band when that happened. You heard Rebel meets Rebel yet? It's what Vinnie Paul and Dime did when they were still in Pantera but it sound pretty awesome. It's mostly southern rock/metal.

Hellyeah's still got some awesome songs, I can't wait to see them at FV. Your right, Chad does suck live, I remember seeing Mudvayne and saying Oh my God this guy sounds way better in the studio!

The only thing I don't like about Chad's vocal style is that he's trying too much to imitate Paul Bruce Dickinson. He needs to drop it to 2nd-4th alto and he'll be golden. Even Jacoby from Papa Roach has a better vocal structure.

Metallica, Slayer, and Megadeth are all older than Pantera, true, but that doesn't take away from the fact that Pantera is considered one of the Big 4 by record companies. And they do have a say in genres, since they use it to market sales. But "groove metal??" I have to agree with Faceless Killa, I've never heard of groove metal before.
