you need to have an art program on your computer in order to make edits... that's the first step... if you don't have one, do a search and see if anything comes up.

GIMP is free and comes with a "layers" feature and all the tools necessary to make edits. Just do a search for "GIMP" on google.com or some other internet search feature and you should come across a download site fairly quickly.
The other most important part is knowing how to draw and shade clothing with real media such as pencil and paper. If you need tutorials on how to realistically draw clothing, do another search on the internet for "art tutorial" or go to your local library.

Even Paint can be a tool for editing. You just save the avatar base to your computer and then draw on it. I advise zooming way, way in while you're editing. It helps very much with control!

Well, I have Paint Shop Pro 7, but I still use paint because I'm better at it. I get sharper results that way and um...I was never very good at technologic stuff. There's just to many options/tools in other programs! It confuses me to the maxxors! XO;;
