What would it be like if we had materia and it is not use in just wepons but everyday life objects like the computer your on right now.

Hmmm...lets see. War would control the world, we would somehow molecularly alter them to become Weapons of Mass Destruction, and there would be some hella legal issues when a bolt of lightning flies out of nowhere and hits the neighbors dog.

well besides all the killing I could use the ice one to cool my drinks, fire to heat my food and lightning to umm... make my power bill smaller biggrin
hmm.. then I could use slow to slow down time and hast when I want to win a race. I could use bio when someone needs a good carma check and earth when I need some landscapeing done xd
all the posibilitys!

You're all thinking on a "Materia-is-a-new-fangled-invention" level. If Materia were to be brought in now, they'd be government controlled and wouldn't be used by the regular joe, so they'd most likely be illegal.
If it were a natural thing that everyone knew about, it would be more controlled and used everyday like kitchen knives...

but at the same time past has shown us that when a government comes into possession of a new and powerful weapon that no one else has, they use it to get submission from an enemy, look at Hiroshima for example, we were the first to get the atomic bomb and than bombed japan for their surrender. its just not something we would need or want in my opinion, more damage than good in the end.
