Roleplaying is most defiantly a game, a game is defined as, 'an amusement or pastime.'
So, by that, if you enjoy role playing then it is a game.
Plus, it is just awesome.

A videogame is a videogame, no matter where you are. And a videogame is meant to be fun. That's why roleplaying is definitely a gaming genre.
Just to let you know, one of the games that has kept me most enthralled in my life was Morrowind. I mashed it so hard in a month, I have a level 20-something Argonian in a bonemold/dragonscale armor. Dungeon Siege also kept me addicted for quite a while: I think I managed to reach the 9th dungeon in a couple of months.

Well, I guess my thoughts on this would be sort of split.. I believe in rpg GAMES.. but roleplaying on the forums where people are random and don't follow a set story or do god mode-ing or pull crazy things out of there butts I would not consider a game I suppose. it is a past time.. and it is fun/entertaining, in the sense of a game it's.. not.. unless it follows the rules.. or a story...
does that make sense? ninja

well.. if kids can pretend to play doctor or house wife and call that a game, then that makes role-playing a game ^^

*appears in a flash of lightning* Yo all. Let me see what i can say about this. Well i may not be a girl, but i do support Gamer Chicks. Ok everyone, roleplaying here is like playing dungeons and dragons. There isn't always an obvious story, but if you play your character right, it can be very fun. I consider this to be like playing a tabletop rpg. It's not a videogame, but it does have the qualities needed for game. Only here, the character that you play is only limited by your imagination, not by some preset character. You can be whoever you want here. In short, yes, roleplaying here is a game, and a pretty damn fun one at that. Well later all. *bows and vanishes in a flash of lightning*
