Okay. I had to do a project for this book my class was reading called 'The Great Gatsby'. Frankly, I liked it, so I wrote some poems for the project. Tell me what you think!
Plot- From West to East A life affecting plea, He asks you for the love of his hopeful life, In which it ends up as an affair triangle, Myrtle, just an inexplicit speck, Death soon follows suspicion, All enemies in a single hotel suite, His big flashy car whizzing past, An unrepentant victim, Go ahead; flee back into your world of money, Crushing a hopeful mans dreams, Murder….At a poolside.
The Green Light I long for you, Your glow, you’re bright, You shine light upon me, Within you, I find happiness, But, just out of reach, A gaping hole lies, A dream for the future, I want you, I need you, Light, there is a place for you in everyone’s heart.
The eyes of T.J. Eckleburg You judge the guilty, and eye the hopeless Those with no fear of consequence, or judgment, Like a father, you watch over the careless.
Nick A voice of character, A bond of business, You get involved with literal love affairs, You act as a liaison, Between a mixed up pair, An infamous reunion, Pride yourself with your own pride in your honesty, But you stick to the man, who made himself up, Don’t forget. Loyalty counts.
Jordan Incurably dishonest, An unmoral fiend, Choke up your golf clubs, And spit out your scheme. Haughty and careless, You take his heart; he’s in your caress, Yet, then again, you get yourself engaged, Leaving a lonely Nick purely enraged.
Daisy Daisy you tool, None but a stupid fool, Laughing all night, Staying up with the girls, Flowers and chocolate, Rubies and pearls, All for yourself, It’s your day, of course, Every girl needs to pamper herself.
Tom Get your careless body out of the lagging rain, All you cause is despair and pain, At distances of centuries, Infection in the Old Ivy breeds.
Theme Careless – You hang your head and keep going, Not looking back at the damage you caused, You couldn’t care less at the people you hurt, The people you thought you loved, But did the certain thought ever occur to you, That people get tired of your stubborn selfish act? No it doesn’t, because you are Old Ivy, It is the only thing on your mind, Like cobwebs unmoved, You careless fools, Your minds are so simple.
Yes, I know, I didn't include Gatsby. But thats because it wasn't my poem and I'm not about to claim it as my own.
