in the state that the world is in today, every one, and i do mean every one(not actualy every one but lots of people) are haveing sex. Wars and genocides rage in 3rd world contrys because of a lack of food and space. the last thing this world needs is more people, or sex-deprived peverts. a kid i know was talking about waiting till he was maried to have sex, and i was talking about the adverse affects of that, like the possible loss of your sex drive, which is somthing you dont want to lose untill your like 40-50, and he said he knew a couple that waited that had 16 kids. thats ridicules, now i know not every ones going to have 16 kids, but i know id be in my own personal hell with out birth control, like a shot gun wedding, im not even out of highschool, id want to worry about having kids, but i do enjoy sex. i know i dont have to follow the pope as a athiest, and i dont, but think of the millions of people that do.

Soooooo, what're getting at? Are you saying that religion is the reason there isn't birth-control in 3rd world countries, or are you saying that the Christian idea of waiting unitl marriage has both positive and negative effects? Could you elaborate, and specify?

I can agree with you on religion contributing to over population. And what really irritates me, is that these "missions" always pop up in extremely poor areas where lack of resources and over population are the culprit, and they preach daily prayer and protectionless sex! WTF! It's like "Hey, lets make them work less, pray more, and have more kids! That'll fix everything!" *Sigh.* rolleyes

For many South Africans, living in a nation that's so heavily ravaged by AIDS that related deaths from the disease are exponentially higher than in the Western world, their only sex education comes from Catholic missionaries.
Who preach that contraceptives and birth control are against God's law.
Religious indoctrination, highly diverted funds and now the encouragement of sex that will boost the population and spread STDs. Thanks, Catholicism.

The concept of missionary charity is something that Atheists and non-Christians should be able to support.
But the fact is that SO little money actually makes its way into support, donations, food and education that it's a joke.
Just like the Jesuit and Catholic groups that have tried with eerie levels of success to convert, at least in name, all the indigenous cultures of the New World.
So it ends up that most of the effort and money goes towards plane tickets, travel supplies, sending out requests and broadcasts for more money and, of course a profit margin.
The original Christian church, back in its wily first few hundred years, was an ascetic cult that gave away any extra money to traveling prophets or the local poor and needy. Now we can't even respect that about Christian missionary groups, because their donations are an ounce to their pound of profit and ton of payroll.

Also, it's very frustrating for historians. In these remote civilizations, very little is known about their culture and way of life, since they prefer serclusion. Then some "missionary" moves in, refuses to go away for years, then eventually gains the trust of the people, and then destroys all of their native culture and religion, and as a result robbing the world of another chapter in human history. stressed
This thread should be the Anti-Missionary Thread.

This thread should be the Anti-Missionary Thread. I think missionaries and forgein colonies destory more things then they could ever help. I've read countless books of the 'Civilzation of China' it sickes me. Thank you christians and their home contries for making China Communist. Jerks.
