cats are pretty good, and I think that alot of hunter take them for their dps pet.
I personally have a ravager, but pre-bc every hunter I made had a cat pet.

I'm not big on having a cat as a pet.
Only my Belf Hunter has a cat as a pet... And everyone had Echeyakee and I wanted to be different so I got the Ghost Saber.
My other two Hunters (all on different servers, otherwise it'd be silly having three Hunters) have Wolves as pets.

yea i agree with azn.. im not really.. that smart in the WoW world so im not sure as to how everything goes now days. but IMO i used to bear. seemed to hold aggro alot while i stood back and shot it. but then again the dps on the cat would keep it also. but it wouldnt be able to take as many hints. (correct me if im wrong on any of this) plus.. i like the turtle later on XD

Early on I've noticed that a cat can tank very well. I've taken as many as three or four enemies at a time with a slow pull (cat pulls 4, burst dps one with arcane shot, serpent sting, then finish with multishot. Cat holds two, one rushes you. Kite the one who rushes you while shooting the one your cat is fighting til his two are dead, then you and cat finish of the one who rushed you.) especially since it adds substantial dps so you can kill the caster enemies more quickly. Of course, in the early levels the bonus armor and stamina from skills is probably more of a boost above the average enemy in lower levels, not to mention I'm a Beast Mastery spec, so it may be different late game. Of course, it all depends on your play style. In pvp, its a no brainer though. You use a dps pet because everybody ignores your pet except to maby cc it (polymorph, fear, scare pet, etc) so you try to get the most damage out of it as you can.

Cats are supposedly a high DPS, low health pet (+10%, -2% respectively)
Despite this, at level 25, my cat Koneko (was an Elder Moonstaker from Teldrassil) can tank in dungeons if we don't have a proper player tank in the group. eek Though on occasions we *do* have a player who can tank (Warrior or Pally) I have to remember to disable auto-growl.
I find this highly amusing. Mostly because she has more HP/Armour than I do at this stage. (About 1.1k hp and 1.7k armour compared to my 700/700)

Here is a site that will answer all your pet questions. PetopiaAs for my opinion. Cats are great for DPS. Scorpids are awesome tanks. I used Sarkoth until lvl 46. Then tamed me a Springpaw Cub because i thought i should get a dps pet. Im a big PvP fan so i loved the idea of a cat with sprint running down a bloodelf. Really its all just preference though. Alot of beginners like boars because they hold aggro awesomely.

I used a cat since the dawn of my hunter. Starting at level 10 with a Durotar Tiger, then upgrading pre-BC with the horde only quest spawn Shy Rotam. And now finally I have upgraded to the eilte cat Hawkbane (level 70, and you must fly to get to him). I swear by cats. They hold agro well, they are great dps for either pvp or pve-dungeon aspects.
